Beneath the Surface by M.A. Stacie

Perfect title for this contemporary romance book by M.A. Stacie. I literally devoured it, not particularly because of a original plot, but it is certainly well written and I enjoyed very much the two main characters Kyran and Dale and their story.

Kyran Reese is a man in control. Driven when it comes to work, focused when it comes to play. From his office to the chalk circle of the bare-knuckle boxing ring, his only thought is to win. That thirst heightens when Dale Porter enters his life. His brother’s assistant should be off limits, but her witty comments and sarcastic comebacks have him desperate to get her between the sheets.
When Dale agrees to Kyran’s relationship stipulation of no labels she’s sucked into a whirlwind of lust, money, and underground boxing. Dale fights her growing affection, trying to hide it when the world around them spirals out of control. All too soon she realizes she can’t hide her true feelings any longer.

Has Kyran finally met his match? Could playing to win mean playing for keeps?

I liked the instantaneous and intense attraction at first sight between the two of them, their bickering, with Dale not at all intimidated by Kyran, she speaks her mind directly and this take off-guard the man.
He reminded me a little bit the protagonist of "Fight Club", perhaps more for the fighting than anything else. Kyran is a true alpha male, used to intimidate and control all the people. Dale chenge his life and his desire to take the relationship with a woman without deep feelings. He doesn't realize that from the very beginning something is not square with his desire. Dale in no time manages to overcome his barriers and he is unable or unwilling to analyze why he feels so good with her and confide her things that nobody else knows about him.
He and his brother Taylor had scars related with their childhood and they face their demons differently.
The relationship between Dale and Kyran is very hot, sexual scenes are very explicit, but it's so good to read about them.
And their story avoids the usual cliches of a third person who stands between the two, complicating things, for this they are very good to do it themself.
It is the first book in the series Reluctance, but truthfully I couldn't say if the second book will be reconnected to this and who will be the protagonist. Perhaps the brother of Kyran, Taylor? It only remains to wait for the next book.
Thanksto  Netgalley and Smith Publicity- The Writers Coffee Shop for the book.

Anteprima: Claimed by the Demon by Doranna Durgin

This book left me a little puzzled. The idea was really good, but as it was developed the storyline I found a little difficult to go ahead with the reading. I had to stop several times, finding I didn't like very much by how it was narrated the story.

A blade wanted his soul ;but she wanted his heart.

Gwen Badura lives by instinct, tied to the pendant she has worn since she was a child. Michael MacKenzie is driven by the demon blade he carries, his soul slowly poisoned by its demands. They are both drawn to the city of Albuquerque by forces they do not understand; forces that require their submission; or their death.
Thrown together by violence, in a city being driven mad with hate, their connection; emotional and physical; is immediate, and fierce. They don't know the rules of this deadly game, only the penalty for losing. Gwen and Mac need to trust each other to survive; but the secrets they carry may destroy them first.

It seems a bit of an unfinished opera.
The characters of Gwen and Mac are interesting, but the chemistry between them is not what can strikes the reader. Maybe a little is due to the fact that at first you have to understand the tory of Mac and his demon blade, which led him always in trouble, looking for strong emotions tied to violence.
And even once he meets Gwen, almost immediately, it is left a little too much confusion related to him and her secrets. Flashback, "inner voices" that drive the actions of Gwen and Mac, among them there is a bond started as soon as they find each other. All this part is a bit too long, slowing down the reading that was fragmented and not very engaging.
The physical attraction between the two characters is immediate and intense, but the premises then disappoint you then when they get to the point between them.
Thanks to Netgalley and Harlequin for the preview.

Anteprima: Beyond Pain by Kit Rocha

A copy of this book provided by the authors in exchange for an honest review.

When I read the post on facebook through which the authors informed there were eArc copies available of the book, I could not resist and I tried to ask for a copy.
I love Kit Rocha's Beyond Series and I think that it is so exciting to be addictive. Beyond Pain is the third book in the series and this time the story is about Bren and Six, we had a glimpses of them that in the previous book.

A woman with no future...

Live fast, die young–anything else is a fantasy for Six. She’s endured the worst the sectors had to throw at her, but falling in with Dallas O’Kane’s Sector Four gang lands her in a whole new world of danger. They’re completely open about everything, including their sexuality–but she hasn’t survived this long by making herself vulnerable. Especially not to men as dominant as Brendan Donnelly.

A man without a past…

Bren is a killer, trained in Eden and thrown to the sectors. His one outlet is pain, in the cage and in the bedroom, and emotion is a luxury he can’t afford–until he meets Six. Protecting her soothes him, but it isn’t enough. Her hunger for touch sparks a journey of erotic discovery where anything goes–voyeurism, flogging, rough sex. He has only one rule: he won’t share her.

In Bren’s arms, Six is finally free to let go. But his obsession with the man who made him a monster could destroy the fragile connection they’ve forged, and cost him the one thing that makes him feel human–her love.

The story between Bren and Six is at once sweet, intense and terribly hot. Bren knows that he cannot erase the deep wounds caused by the abuse that Six suffered in the past, caused by Trent, the man who was in charge of the Sector Three, but he wants to help her to put the pieces together and give her the chance to go back to believing in herself and accept her place in the Sector Four, so she can believe that for her there might be a place among the O'Kane and she can join without feeling like an outsider. Bren knows that in order to do so, he must pass through the shield that six built around herself and win her trust.
It's a long path for Six, who must fight against her survival instincts, which helped her to overcome terrible moments, before her arrival among the O'Kane and find the opportunity to finally have a place in a family, why being an O'Kane means being part of a family, the gang comes first, and the bond between its members is deep and unique.
Bren is not the perfect "Knight with shining armor", he is a killer, in his past he has done terrible and merciless things. His only desire has always been the revenge against his enemy, and he is not immune from making mistakes with Six, but nothing and nobody can go through from his bond with her.
The plot is not focused only on two of them and the evolution of their platonic friendship relationship to something much more erotic and extreme.
Sexuality among the members of the gang is explored at the limit (BDSM, Exhibitionism, threesome or more), but that is always the go with consensuality ...
We can see the King Dallas and his Queen Lex, struggling with new sector management, which they must begin to take the control. They are perfect together and I am always enchanted by the perfection of their bond, and the fireworks they make in a few scenes in which they are present, they're are so amazing and hot.
We meet new characters that we will see in the future, Emma and Noah, and then there are Cruz, Rachel and Ace. I believe that their book, after the little suprises displayed on them in Beyond Pain, will be spectacular, I hope as the book on Lex and Dallas, which is my favorite right now.
The Beyond Series I think is one of the best , thanks to its wonderful characters and for the dynamics of the gang, its originality as a distopic erotic romance setting and the plots are always well written. It's really a pleasure to plunge into the world of O'Kane, it goes under your skin.

Thanks to the authors for the preview of the book, thanks to the eARC provided.

Play Me by Diane Alberts

TITOLO: Play Me
AUTRICE: Diane Alberts
SERIE: Take a Chance # 3
EDITORE: Entangled Publishing LLC
DATA PUBBLICAZIONE: 19 luglio 2013

I would consider Play Me, given its length, asa short novel; It is the third story in the series "Take a Chance" by Diane Alberts. It is a contemporary romance novel, quite nice, pleasant and easy to read, great at this time of year, to spend a few hours immersed in reading.

Even the best-laid plans can go awry.
Single-mom Kiersten Worth knows a bottle of champagne and night of hot, no-strings-attached sex is the perfect solution to her jilted bride blues…and Garrett Kelly, long-time friend and her teenaged son’s sexy basketball coach, is just the stud for the job.
Garrett wants more from the elusive temptress than a casual affair, but he never expects it to come in the form of an unexpected pregnancy. When he proposes an unorthodox solution—move in and raise their baby together—Kiersten has to decide whether to let down her guard and open her heart to the man who secretly loved her for years, or risk losing his tender embrace for good.

If I had to think about a man as a "Prince charming" modern I would say that Garrett is your perfect guy. Beautiful, sexy, but also thoughtful, caring, loyal, faithful, and so on, he has the ability to say the right thing, that a woman would want to be told, at the right time. Not afraid to face up to his responsibilities and the consequences. And then, if I can say so say, between the sheets he is quite hot.
On the other hand Kiersten with her thousands of uncertainties, her push and pull because of her previous heartbreak, would test the patience of a saint, but that her way of being still puts more emphasis on Garrett.
The teenage son of Kiersten provides small pearls of wisdom as only know to do sometimes boys at that age, very cute.
The book is part of a series, but it is independent from the others and a one-shot.
I really liked this story by Diane Alberts and I'd lovet to read the two previous books as soon as possible.
Thank to Netgalley and Entangled Publishing LLC for the book.

Toxic by Belinda McBride

SERIE: Truckee Wolves # 1
EDITORE: Loose Id LLC
DATA PUBBLICAZIONE: 23 aprile 2013

Belinda McBride is one of my favorite authors, I discovered her casually, the plots and characters of her books are always open-minded  and is one thing that I love about her, this new series has been a nice surprise. In Truckee Wolves are present beautiful werewolves, but not only that, this book brings to the life of this bunch, but are also among humans with special gifts and a secret organization that pursued both for its experiments.
The plot is well written and enjoyable read, with some episodes really very, very funny.

There are three things that Dr. Briony Theale loves. Her job as a veterinarian, a good bar of rich, dark chocolate, and Rico, the new ranger in charge of the Wildlife Rescue center. When a casual dinner with the mysterious Rico turns surprisingly intimate, Briony realizes that she might just have a chance with him after all, if only she could lose a few pounds. It's the ultimate sacrifice, but Briony goes cold turkey, and swears off chocolate forever.

Rico Montgomery fell hard for Briony the first time he set eyes on the curvy little doctor. Her brown hair and cocoa skin trigger cravings that he can barely control, and her fragrance is like the sweetest, richest chocolate he's ever scented in his life. That's a bad thing for Rico, because to a werewolf like him, chocolate is literally a toxin.

Rico can't live with it, and Briony can't live without it. And when a certain wandering wolf finds a bag of chocolate in the Dumpster near Briony's clinic, these two will find just how toxic love can be.

Briony and Rico are truly a beautiful couple, a good and explosive match in their chemistry. Thanks to the irony of MS. McBride you can't help but read their story with a smile between your lips.
I also like the Pack of wolves as a whole, its components and their story, a little different from the usual tales about werewolves. Even their Alpha is given a role a little more special than the other psranormal readings, he's the leader, but his job is to take care of others, protect them and succeed in solving all the big problems of werewolves persecuted by Abraxas. He is not only the law of the strongest then.
His beta Sage intrigued me a lot, always at the limit of loss of self-control, feared by everyone for his character, but loyal and a little mad.
What about the mother of Briony ... Her figure is for sure the cherry on the top of the cake in this book, mysterious, tough, thanks to her skills has been able to raise two children, protecting them from the organization that wanted the children for its experiments.
And in the end you discover many things about her and her being special.
Beautiful and amazing this book, I hope in a fast  coming out of other books in this series.

Anteprima: Bound by Night by Larissa Ione

Good start for Larissa Ione's new series, dedicated to vampires. It's difficult to create something truly unique and original in the paranormal world on this topic, as it had been for the Demonica Series, which I adored, perhaps a bit because of my work as a nurse ...
In Bound in the Night, vampires are immortal creatures, but they are subjugated to the power of humans, they capture and using them as slaves and made experiments with them as guinea pigs. I must say a little bit creepy,  even though the story of "human" reality has shown us that the fiction is nothing compared to what we can really do.
We face the eternal clash between the two races, with humans that are not the usual innocent victims, as well as this, then we are also faced with struggles of different clan of vampires.
I liked very much the story and as usual I like Larissa Ione's writing a lot, her characters are always described and represented accurately with their inner conflicttracheite talking are always funny and ironic and her vampires very very hot.

A WOMAN OUT FOR BLOOD
Nicole Martin was only eight years old when the vampire slaves rose up in rebellion and killed her family. Now she devotes her life to finding a vaccine against vampirism, hoping to wipe out her memories—along with every bloodsucker on the planet. But there’s one thing she cannot destroy: her searing, undeniable attraction for the one man she should hate and fear the most . . .

A VAMPIRE OUT FOR REVENGE
A member of the renegade vampire MoonBound Clan, Riker is haunted by demons of his own. When he recognizes Nicole and remembers how her family enslaved his loved ones, his heart burns for vengeance. But when he kidnaps Nicole and holds her in a secret lair, his mortal enemy becomes his soul obsession, his greatest temptation, and, perhaps, his only salvation—a hot-blooded lover who could heal him with her touch . . . or bury him forever.

Nicole is a tough woman, despite her traumatic past, she does not affect making a whole herb a bundle, but she's willing to question her memories and accept the truth about her family, once she discovers there are a lot of unpleasant things about them and something more that is kept hidden from her in the present. She fight against her feelings for Ryker, but when the truth is clear she doesn't pull back, ready to face the consequences of her choices.
Ryker, between guilt, uncertainty and the deep attraction he feels for her, takes a bit to figure out what he really wants and understand himself.
Their relationship is very hot, as characteristic for Larissa Ione's characters, but with a bit of ups and downs.
All the characters are important to create the overall picture of this world, are special and interesting and, I hope, and I can't wait to read the next book in the series, which I think is on Hunter the clanleader MoonBound
I found original the theory on the birth of vampires who shows us the author in this series as well as the feeding between Vampires, different from the usual approach in the paranormal world.
