The Soldier's Dark Secret is a really nice book, perhaps the best of those I've read of Marguerite Kaye or maybe one with the characters that impressed me the most.

Two excellent characters and an intriguing plot, full of mistery about Celeste's mother past, keeping the reader engaged in the storyline. I have to say that I love a lot too as Ms Kaye reconstructs historical scenarios in which puts her love stories, analyzing with a critical eye, creating characters that are war heroes, but they pay the price of their choices, sometimes horrible choices, of whom they were witnesses or architects during the war, and they were profoundly changed by them. I find this thing always makes them look very realistic.

I loved Jack e Celeste from the very beginning, their being so direct with one another and out of the schemes for that time.

Celeste is an artist, an independent and intelligent young woman, her childhood is marked by a cold and distant relationship with her mother, for which she will suffer a great deal, but at the same time she will not indulge in self-pity, learning to go forward on her way, she's so brave. She is not impressed by Jack, from his mood swings or his outbursts sometimes very sharp and she doesn't hide the deep emotions that he manages to unleash inside of her. Maybe being a painter and French helps her to dare more, without having to necessarily worry about being judged according to the rules of English high society families.

Jack, as mentioned before, is a man tormented by his inner demons, he fights a battle against himself, to overcome this terrible moment that seems to put a strain on his right mind. I really liked how he attempts to come to terms with his problems and at the same time being so perceptive and considerate towards Celeste.

Their relationship is full of passion, they don't understand the reason for the intensity of this attraction, but  they both don't hide their reactions and thanks to this sincerity they can go beyond the façade which  they reserve to the rest of the world.

Their story is undoubtedly made more charming by the mysteries surrounding the life of the mother of Celeste and the terrible secret that Jack try to hide from everyone, bringing the weight of it on his shoulder.

I think the book is amazing , beautiful love scenes and dialogues, well written love scenes, passionate and never vulgar. In short, I liked it a lot!

The Soldier's Dark Secret è davvero un bel libro, forse il migliore tra quelli che ho letto di Marguerite Kaye o forse quello con i protagonisti che mi hanno colpito di più.

Due ottimi personaggi e una trama intrigante, che si rivela un poco alla volta, mantenendo il lettore coinvolto nella lettura. Devo dire che amo molto anche come la scrittrice ricostruisce gli scenari storici nei quali inserisce le sue storie d'amore, analizzandole con occhio critico, creando dei personaggi che sono sì degli eroi di guerra, che però pagano il prezzo delle scelte, a volte atroci, delle quali sono stati testimoni o artefici durante la guerra, rimanendone profondamente cambiati. Trovo che questo aspetto li renda sempre molto realistici.

Jack e Celeste mi sono piaciuti da subito, il loro essere così diretti l'uno con l'altro e anticonformisti per l'epoca.

Celeste è una artista, una giovane donna indipendente e intelligente, la sua infanzia è segnata da un rapporto freddo e distante con la madre, cosa che la farà soffrire in modo enorme, ma al tempo stesso la spingerà a non indulgere nell'autocommiserazione, imparando ad andare a avanti per la sua strada in modo coraggioso. Non si lascia impressionare da Jack, da i suoi sbalzi di umore o dalle sue uscite a volte taglienti e non nasconde le profonde emozioni che lui riesce a scatenare dentro di lei. Forse l'essere una pittrice e per di più  francese la aiuta a poter osare di più, senza doversi per forza preoccupare di essere giudicata secondo le regole delle famiglie dell'alta società inglese.

Jack, come già detto prima, è un uomo tormentato dai suoi demoni interiori, combatte una battaglia contro se stesso, per superare questo momento terribile che sembra mettere a dura prova la sua ragione. Mi è piaciuto molto per come tenta di affrontare i suoi problemi e al tempo stesso sia così percettivo e attento nei confronti di Celeste.

Il loro rapporto è pieno di passione, non comprendono il motivo dell'intensità di questa attrazione, ma entrambi non nascondono le loro reazioni e grazie a questa sincerità riescono ad andare oltre la facciata che riservano al resto del mondo.

La loro storia è senz'altro resa più affascinante dai misteri che avvolgono la vita della madre di Celeste e dal terribile segreto che Jack tenta di nascondere a tutti, portandone il peso come un macigno.

Trovo che il libro sia scritto in modo splendido, bei dialoghi, scene d'amore ben scritte, passionali e mai volgari. Insomma mi è piaciuto un sacco!

Amazing book! And I sincerely believe Sara Ramsey is one of the best among the regency romances authors.
Her stories are never trivial, her heroines unpredictable and unusual for the time, strong, smart and funny and her male protagonists are absolutely magnificent.
Every time I fall in love with her stories and every time I find myself thinking about how much this author's books are beautiful and about her talent.
Callista is accustomed to live an adventurous life, following in the footsteps of his father, who abandoned the English high society, to travel and build his own merchant fleet. Lost both parents she didn't hesitate to take over the reins of the business, daring even the unthinkable for a British woman: to be in charge of American privateering ships,  attacking and capturing English ships and their precious loads.
She discover a new challenge, which will take place in an environment totally unknown to her, she could inherit Maidenstone Abbey, the home of her ancestors, the people so hated by his father, but that is something that she has never had in her life: a House, a place only for her, which  can become her refuge.
Actually she could win it in a weird contest  against her cousins: who of the three will choose a husband in the party considered the more interesting by judge Lord Ferguson, will have the home.
Callista wants to win at all costs, but it is also necessary to find the ideal candidate, one man facade, so she can manage her affairs.
A protagonist conventional and truly beautiful, but the Duke do Thorington is her worthy counterpart.
Full of charm and capable to use at best the importance and the awe that his title can arouse in people. He is on the brink of ruin, but before his creditors make everything public, Thorington wants to put his brothers and sisters in the best conditions, and what better occasion to find a rich heiress to one of them? The show he manages to put in motion and how he can dominate the scene is truly spectacular to read, but the unexpected meeting with Callista detract from the safety devices and the projects of this man so self-confident.
Together the two make fireworks, their exchanges of ideas are full of irony and sarcasm and the attraction that arises between them inevitable.
I loved both and reading their story has flown the pages, a story full of passion but also very romantic.
Callista sometimes manages to bring out the man hidden behind the facade of the Duke's ice, and he is so wonderful tender, a sweet man, passionate and protective. A man who is not afraid to give the right space to his woman, but at the same time he can become absolutely dominant if he thinks she can be in danger.
Duke of Thorns is the first book in the new series by Sara Ramsey Heiress Games and I can't wait to read the next book on Octavia, Callie's cousin, and Rafe, brother of Duke.

Bellissimo libro! E credo sinceramente che al momento Sara Ramsey sia una delle migliori tra le scrittrici di romanzi regency.
Le sue storie non sono mai banali, le sue eroine donne imprevedibili e inusuali per quell'epoca, forti, intelligenti e divertenti e i suoi protagonisti maschili assolutamente magnifici.
Ogni volta mi innamoro delle sue storie e ogni volta mi ritrovo a pensare quanto questa autrice scriva bene e abbia talento.
Callista è abituata a vivere una vita avventurosa, seguendo le orme del padre, che ha abbandonato l'Alta Società inglese, per viaggiare e costruire la sua flotta navale mercantile privata. Persi entrambi i genitori non ha esitato a prendere in mano le redini degli affari, osando anche l'impensabile per una donna di origine britannica: essere a capo di navi pirata americane che assaltano e conquistano navi inglesi e i loro preziosi carichi.
Si presenta a lei una nuova sfida, che avrà luogo in un'ambiente a lei totalmente sconosciuto, ereditare Maidenstone Abbey, la casa dei suoi antenati, la casa tanto odiata dal padre, ma che per lei rappresenta qualcosa che non ha mai avuto in vita sua: una casa, un posto suo concreto, che possa diventare il suo rifugio.
In realtà deve proprio vincerla in una farà bizzarra contro le sue cugine: chi delle tre sceglierà come marito il partito ritenuto più interessante dal giudice Lord Ferguson, avrà la casa.
Callista vuole vincere a tutti i costi, ma si rende anche conto di dover trovare il candidato ideale, un uomo di facciata, che poi le faccia gestire autonomamente i suoi affari.
Una protagonista anti convenzionale e veramente splendida, ma il Duca do Thorington è la sua degna controparte.
Pieno di fascino e abituato a usare al meglio l'importanza e il timore reverenziale che il suo titolo sa suscitare nella gente. È sull'orlo della rovina, ma prima che i suoi creditori rendano tutto pubblico, Thorington vuole sistemare i suoi fratelli e le sue sorelle, e quale migliore occasione di trovare una ricca ereditiera per uno di loro? Lo show che riesce a mettere in moto e dome riesce a dominare la scena è veramente spettacolare da leggere, ma l'incontro inaspettato con Callista scalfisce le sicurezze e i progetti di quest'uomo così sicuro di sé.
Insieme i due fanno scintille, i loro scambi di idee sono pieni di ironia e sarcasmo e l'attrazione che nasce tra di loro inevitabile.
Ho amato entrambi e leggere la loro storia ha fatto volare le pagine, una storia piena di passione ma anche molto romantica.
Callista a volte riesce a far emergere l'uomo nascosto dietro la facciata del Duca glaciale, ed è un uomo stupendo tenero, dolce, passionale e protettivo. Un uomo che non ha paura a concedere il giusto spazio alla sua donna, ma che al tempo stesso diventa assolutamente dominante se pensa che possa essere in pericolo.
The Duke of Thorns è il primo libro nella nuova serie di Sara Ramsey Heiress Games e non vedo l'ora di poter leggere il prossimo libro su Octavia, cugina di Callie, e Rafe, fratello del Duca.

Risen is a book that belongs to the steampunk genre, which I love very much for its settings. Very original and unusual, thanks to the style used by the author to write her story, but also for the protagonists Art and Jim.
Art and Jim are two agents in the service of a Secret Commission, this organization has the task of selecting person raised after their death, to turn them into agents to fight evil creatures.
The past of these agents is erased from their minds and their only new aim is to complete the missions that are assigned to them.
A story full of action, mystery, but also with fun moments thanks to the profound differences between Jim and Art.
Art is a ghost with the great potential, but she is still pretty inexperienced. During the story she meets mysterious women who seem to have been part of her past, but in this first book, yet some questions remain outstanding on her.
The lesbian theme is hardly mentioned, even if Art realizes to be lesbian, in the book is made only a brief reference to this thing and everything focuses on the resolution of the case entrusted to Art and Jim: find the man who is the re-animator of the murdered children, whicthey are attacking the residents of London.
I'm very curious to go on reading this series in the future.

Risen è un libro che appartiene al genere steampunk, che io amo molto per le sue ambientazioni. Insolito e molto originale, grazie allo stile utilizzato dall'autrice nello scrivere la sua storia, ma anche ai suoi protagonisti Art e Jim.
Art e Jim sono due agenti al servizio di una Commissione Segreta, questa organizzazione ha il compito di selezionare persona in vita dopo la loro morte, per trasformarli in agenti per combattere creature ritenute pericolose per il Regno Unito.
Il passato di questi agenti viene cancellato dalle loro menti e il loro unico nuovo scopo è portare a termine le missioni che gli vengono assegnate.
Un racconto ricco di azione, mistero, ma anche con momenti divertenti grazie alle profonde differenze presenti tra Jim e Art.
Art è un fantasma dal grande potenziale, ma ancora piuttosto inesperta visto la sua creazione recente. Durante la storia incontra misteriose donne che sembrano aver fatto parte del suo passato, ma in questo primo libro, ancora un po' di domande rimangono in sospeso su di lei.
La tematica lesbica è appena accennata, infatti anche se Art si rende conto di essere lesbica, nel libro non viene approfondito per adesso questo punto, viene fatto solo un breve accenno alla cosa e tutto si concentra sulla risoluzione del caso affidato ad Art e Jim: trovare l'uomo che sta riportando in vita dei bambini assassinati che a loro volta stanno attaccando gli abitanti di Londra.
Sono molto curiosa di poter andare avanti a leggere questa serie in futuro.

Lily's desires are buried down deep, but her attraction to Isma'il is too strong to deny. Will seducing the sheikh cost Lily her body and her soul?


Cute, nice texture and two excellent protagonists.
At the beginning of the book I loved shamelessly Isma'il and I had a little underestimated Lily, which eventually turns out to be a really tough and combative woman, I liked her a lot.
Isma'il is very charming and alluring as often are these sheikhs in their books, but at some point goes into crisis with himself, he's haunted and Lily has to fight alone for their story.
In this I was disappointed a little bit with him, but still remains a good story.

Carino, bella trama e due ottimi protagonisti.
All'inizio del libro tifavo spudoratamente per Isma'il e avevo un po' sottovalutato Lily, che invece alla lunga si rivela veramente una donna tosta e combattiva, mi è piaciuta molto.
Isma'il è davvero molto affascinante e seducente come spesso lo sono questi sceicchi nei loro libri, ma ad un certo punto va in crisi con se stesso ed è Lily a lottare per la loro storia.
In questo mi ha deluso un po', ma comunque rimane una bella storia.
