One Hot Scot by Suzanne Enoch

Short novel carina per una piacevole e rapida lettura, soprattutto per chi ama il genere historical romance ambientato nelle Highlands, con tanto di kilt, clan ecc...

La prima parte del racconto mi è piaciuto molto, per lo stile pieno di ironia con il quale è stato scritto; Julia, la protagonista femminile, oltre a essere intelligente, determinata e coraggiosa, è anche molto divertente nel modo di pensare e affrontare tutto quello che è successo e trova un bel match in Duncan, il bell'Highlander.

Mentre sta partecipando al matrimonio di una zia a Inverness, Julia Prentiss viene letteralmente sollevata da terra da un uomo che la rapisce per mettere le mani sulla sua eredità. Julia riesce a fuggire dalla sua proprietà nelle Highlands, solo per ritrovarsi da sola, sperduta e inseguita in una terra sconosciuta. Quando si imbatte in un uomo nudo che fuoriesce da un lago, pensa di essere caduta dalla padella alla brace, oppure no?

Duncan Lenox vive circondato dai nemici, un MacLawry nella terra dei Campbell. Con tre sorelle a casa che contano su di lui è diventato un uomo molto cauto. Ma quando una stupenda donna inglese, dai capelli ramati non ha nessun altro a cui rivolgersi, si sente in obbligo di aiutarla. I due sono costretti a trascorrere la notte in un cottage abbandonato, mentre un infuria una bufera e i nemici li circondano, e scoprono una profonda passione reciproca che li potrebbe salvare oppure rovinarli.

Il loro approccio è veramente molto divertente e per questo mi aspettavo un po' di più da questo racconto, forse la sua brevità ha influito un po' nel rendere il seguito un po' troppo scontato e affrettato. La passione istantanea ok, ma che da subito si professino profondo e intenso amore mi sembra un po' inverosimile.

Ciò non toglie che io voglia leggere altri libri di questa autrice sempre con questo tema di fondo.

A nice short novel for a pleasant and quick reading, especially for those who love the genre historical romance set in the Highlands, complete with kilts, clan etc.

I liked very much the first part of the story, for its style full of humor by the way it was written; Julia, the female protagonist, as well as being smart, determined and courageous, is also very funny in the way she thinks and deal with everything that happened to her and she  finds a good match in Duncan, the handsome Highlander.

While attending her aunt's wedding in Inverness, Julia Prentiss is literally swept off her feet by a man who kidnaps her for her fortune. Julia manages to escape from his estate in the Highlands, only to find herself alone, lost, and hunted in a strange land. When she stumbles across a naked man in a lake, she thinks her luck has gone from bad to worse…or has it?

Duncan Lenox lives surrounded by enemies, a MacLawry in a land of Campbells. With three sisters at home who rely on him, he's become a very cautious man. But when an auburn-haired English beauty has nowhere else to turn, he feels obligated to help. When the two are forced to spend the night in an abandoned cottage while a storm rages and enemies circle, they find a mutual passion that could save -- or doom -- them both.

Their approach is truly a lot of fun but I was expecting a bit more from the plot, perhaps its brevity somewhat influenced, making the sequel a little too obvious and hurried. Instant passion is ok, but now the fact they profess each other deep and intense love it seems a bit far-fetched.

I'd love to read other books by this author always in this genre.

Quinto libro della serie Bloodrunners di Rhyannon Byrd. Non conoscevo questa serie  ma  visto che questo libro mi è piaciuto molto e, qualche riferimento a quello che è successo nel passato, mi sono convinta che questa sia una serie che merita di essere seguita.

Volendo la storia di Dark Wolf Running è autoconclusiva, ma la presenza di alcuni personaggi secondari che mi sono piaciuti molto e mi hanno divertito, che i vari piccoli accenni sul passato di Elisa e dei suoi fratelli mi hanno incuriosita molto, quindi non posso dire che andrò avanti, visto che prima devo tornare indietro.

I Bloodrunners sono creature mezzosangue, figli di coppie di licantropi e umani; tra loro e il clan di licantropi purosangue c'è sempre stata ostilità, fomentata dal padre di Elisa e Wyatt  è uno dei migliori Bloodrunners che ci siano, e adesso  svolgono il compito di proteggere i confini del territorio da clan rivali violenti.

Wyatt Pallaton posa  il suo sguardo penetrante sulla donna più incredibile alla quale si sia mai trovato davanti, ma fa di tutto per non farsi coinvolgere. Certo Elisa Drake può   difficilmente essere paragonata a qualsiasi altra femmina. Orgogliosa e controllata, forte e al tempo stesso dolorosamente vulnerabile, ha totalmente invaso i pensieri di Wyatt.

Non importa quanto potrà essere difficile dimostrarglielo, ma Wyatt non ha più intenzione di lasciare che lei continui a fingere che lui non esista. E non le lascerà più combattere le sue battaglie da sola. Non ha più intenzione di combattere continuamente contro se stesso e questo desiderio che lo sta facendo impazzire per la frustrazione. In un modo o nell'altro le cose dovranno cambiare.

Qualsiasi cosa sarà costretto a fare, lei la finirà di scappare.

Ho adorato tutte e due i protagonisti e la loro storia, che è un po' diversa dalle solite trame, più complessa e sofferta visto che Elisa tre anni prima è stata vittima di uno stupro commesso da un gruppo di licantropi. È piena di paure a causa del trauma, ma anche di coraggio, prova repulsione al minimo contatto fisico con persone dell'altro sesso, ma con Wyatt è diverso, è terribilmente sexy e finalmente torna a sentire e provare emozioni che credeva perdute per sempre.

Lui, nonostante la forte attrazione che prova per Elisa, capisce che deve darle tempo e guadagnarsi la sua fiducia, le offre la sua protezione e al tempo stesso la rispetta e non la chiude in una campana di vetro.

Un percorso, il loro, pieno di seduzione, tenerezza, passione, una storia veramente stupenda, inserita in una trama ben scritta, e, come dicevo prima, con dei personaggi secondari che garantiscono momenti molto divertenti e lasciano qualche interrogativo insoluto per i prossimi libri.

Sia Wyatt che Elisa nascondono dei segreti, che creano delle barriere nel rapporto che cercano di instaurare e devono decidere cosa vogliono veramente che accada tra loro due: una semplice relazione o la favola.

Solo il finale l'ho trovato un po' troppo stucchevole e affrettato, ma nel complesso veramente un bel libro.

Fifth book in the series The Bloodrunners by Rhyannon Byrd. I Didn't know about this series and since I really liked this book and some reference to what happened in the pathis le I think that this  is a series that deserves to be followed.

The story  in Dark Wolf Running can stand alone, but both the presence of some secondary characters that I liked a lot and I have enjoyed them, and the various small hints on Elise's past and his brethren have intrigued me a lot, so I can't say I'll go forward as before I have to go back.

The Bloodrunners are sons of pairs of werewolves and humans, and the clan of werewolves purebreed has always hated them, fomented by Elisa's. father . Wyatt is  one of the best Bloodrunners, now their kind protects also the purebreed, they're carrying out a patrol by  the borders of the territory, controlling rival packs.

With his sharp gaze locked on the most magnificent female he'd ever seen, Wyatt Pallaton did his best to hold himself back. Of course, Elise Drake was hardly just any female. Fiery and cool, strong, yet at the same time achingly vulnerable, she'd turned his entire world on its head.

No matter how bloody difficult it proved to be, he was done letting her pretend he didn't even exist. Done with letting her fight her own battles. Done driving himself slowly into this maddening state of frustrated desire. One way or another, things were about to change.

Come hell or high water, she was done running….

I loved both the protagonists and their story is a little different from the usual, more complex and suffered since three years before Elisa was the victim of a rape committed by a group of werewolves. She is full of fear because of the trauma, but also full of courage, she feels revulsion at the slightest physical contact with people of the opposite sex, but with Wyatt is different, he's so hot and handsome and finally she found out she can feel emotions that she believed lost forever.

Wyatt, despite his strong attraction for Elisa, understands that he must give her time and earn her trust, he offers his protection and at the same time he respects Elisa and he dosn't wrap her in a cotton wool.

Their story is full of seduction, tenderness, passion, a truly wonderful story, set in a well-written plot, and, as I said before, with secondary characters that guarantee very funny moments and leave some questions unresolved for the next books.

Both Wyatt that Elisa hide secrets that bring up walls between each other and they must decide what they really want to happen between the two of them: a simple affair or the fairy tale.

Only the ending I found it a little too sweet and rushed, but overall a really nice book. Thanks to Netgalley and Harlequin for the kind preview.

Nuovo libro per Maisey Yates ambientato nel deserto, tra dune di sabbia, oasi, palazzi da mille e una notte con giardini da favola, dove per protagonisti ci sono i suoi affascinanti sceicchi.

Sceicco beduino, traditore, assassino dei tempi moderni; Zafar Nejem è stato denominato in diversi modi. È adesso verrà chiamato Sua Altezza. Sulla via del ritorno verso il trono che lo attende ad Al Sabah, si ritrovata dover accorrere in aiuto di un'ereditiera americana, Analise Christensen, per salvarla dai suoi rapitori nel deserto. 

Ana è la fidanzata ufficiale di uno sceicco si un regno che confina con Al Sabah, la sua presenza deve rimanere all'oscuro di tutti fino a quando Zafar potrà spiegare la sua presenza senza causare un conflitto tra i due Paesi. Ma come il sole sorge ogni mattino sulle dune del deserto, così la passione proibita che nasce tra i due minaccia tutto quello che Zafar sta tentando di fare per il suo regno.

I personaggi maschili del libri di Ms Yates sono sempre molto intensi, tormentati e passionali. Zafar porta il peso sulle sue spalle di un errore commesso in gioventù per amore e ora vuole, dopo un esilio nel deserto, durato anni, vuole dimostrare di avere le capacità per riportare la giustizia nel regno che era a lui destinato, anche se in realtà si rende conto di non essere abbastanza diplomatico per riuscire in questo intento, ha bisogno dell'aiuto di Ana per apparire un po' più civilizzato, visto che tutti stanno aspettando al varco un suo errore.

Ana è perfetta per questo compito, è cresciuta obbligandosi a essere perfetta in tutte le occasioni mondane e non, è fidanzata con uno sceicco e conosce l'ambiente che circonda Zafar, le insidie della politica.

Il libro racconta bene una storia ricca di passione, che però si scontra con il bisogno dei due di fare la cosa giusta non per se stessi, ma per le persone verso le quali hanno dei doveri.

A mio parere, forse, Zafar cede un po' troppo in fretta alla bella Ana, visto i suoi rimorsi sul passato, mi sarei aspettata un po' più di resistenza da parte sua.

 New book by Maisey Yates set in the desert, dunes, oasis, palaces from the thousand and one nights with fabulous gardens, where the protagonists are her fascinating sheikhs.

The Gypsy Sheikh, betrayer, modern-day marauder;Zafar Nejem has been called many things. And now he is to be called Your Majesty. Returning to the throne of Al Sabah, his first act is to rescue American heiress Analise Christensen from her desert kidnappers.

Since Ana is engaged to the ruler of the neighboring kingdom, her discovery must be concealed until Zafar can explain her presence, or else he risks war. But as the sun rises over the sand dunes, so does the forbidden heat that burns between them, threatening everything.

The male characters of Ms Yates books are always very intense, stormy and passionate. Zafar carries the weight on his shoulders for a mistake in his youth for love and now, after an exile in the desert, which lasted years, he wants to prove that he has the ability to restore justice in the Kingdom that was intended for him, although he knows himself and he is not diplomatic enough to succeed in this aim, he needs the help of Ana to appear a little bit more civilized. People are waiting for his mistakes.

Ana is perfect for this task, she has grown to be perfecistori everything, she is engaged with a Sheikh and she knows the environment surrounding Zafar, the pitfalls of politics.

The book tells a good story full of passion, but it collides with the need of them to do the right thing not for themselves, but for people to whom their duties.

In my opinion, maybe, Zafar surrender a little too quickly to Ana, his remorse about the past eas a big issue, I would have expected a little more resistance on his part.

Dominant BDSM Billionaires-The Complete Series Bundle by Malia Mallory

Titolo della serie che fa un po' da specchietto per le allodole, per la quadrilogia Dominating BDSM Billionaires. Sì, perché nei quattro libri della serie vi è una presenza molto light di scene BDSM, molto all'acqua di rosa, che potrebbe andare bene per le persone che desiderano avvicinarsi a questo genere di letteratura erotica, senza rimanere troppo scandalizzati. Mi sembra una scelta molto commerciale, in un momento nel quale si sta pubblicando di tutto e di più in questo campo.

Le trame stesse delle quattro novelle le ho trovate un po' troppo semplici e scontate.

Di solito preferisco un po' più di sostanza.

Tra le quattro storie c'è sempre un collegamento e continuità, nei primi due libri i protagonisti sono gli stessi, Marcus e Tabitha, mentre in seguito si sposta l'attenzione sul fratello e la sorella di Marcus.

Una cosa mi ha sorpreso e stupito: alla base del BDSM c'è anche il concetto di sicurezza,  per la propria salute e in questi libri, dove comunque tutte le storie cominciano da incontri occasionali, mai e poi mai viene menzionato l'uso di un preservativo, cosa che ho ritrovato praticamente sempre negli altri libri di erotica e non. Molto, molto male.

The title of the series it's all done with smoke and mirrors for the tetralogy Dominating BDSM Billionaires. Yes, because in the four books of the series there is a little bit of BDSM scenes, very light, that might be fine for people who want to approach this kind of erotic literature, without getting too shocked. It seems to me a very commercial choice, at a time in which it's been published everything and more in this kind of books.

I found the plots of the four novels a bit too simple and granted.

Usually I prefer a little more substance.

Among the four stories there is always a link and continuity, in the first two books there are the same characters, Marcus and Tabitha, while later the attention moves to Marcus' brother and sister.

I was surprised and amazed for one thing: in the BDSM lifestyle there is also the concept of security, for their own health and in these books, where all the stories begin as casual one-night stand, it's never ever mentioned the use of a condom, which I found pretty much always in the other erotic books. Very, very bad.

Anteprima: One Night with the Laird by Nicola Cornick

4 stelline per questo secondo libro della serie Scottish Brides di Nicola Cornick. Storia ben scritta, per questo regency, con due bei personaggi: Jack scapolo molto apprezzato dal gentil sesso e Lady Mairi vedova a cui il marito ha lasciato una considerevole fortuna.

Tra i due il primo incontro è andato tutt'altro che bene, lui, secondo suo costume, ci ha provato in occasione il battesimo del nipote di Mairi e lei ha pensato bene di chiarire, in modo glaciale, che non era interessata. Il secondo incontro tra i due? Notte di passione dopo un ballo in maschera, senza avere idea delle vere identità l'uno dell'altra.

Inizio decisamente scoppiettante.

Lady Mairi dopo aver riconosciuto il suo amante si volatilizza lasciandolo "sedotto e abbandonato". C'è una prima volta per tutto, e questa lo è per Jack, che non riesce a dimenticare la misteriosa donna.

A causa del forte legame tra il cognato di Mairi e Jack, i due sono destinati a rincontrarsi e finalmente l'uomo riconosce in lei la donna che lo sta ossessionando ancora con il suo ricordo.

Un ricatto, che riguarda un segreto del passato del marito,  potrebbe condurre in rovina Lady Mairi e i familiari del marito, la obbligano ad accettare l'aiuto di Jack e fingere di essere la sua fidanzata, per fare in modo che lui la possa proteggere, mentre tenteranno di smascherare l'autore delle minacce. Jack accetta di interpretare questo ruolo, in modo non del tutto disinteressato: ha tutte le intenzioni di convincere la donna ad avere con lui una relazione più che platonica.

Così superficialmente Jack può sembrare un tipo un po' freddo e calcolatore, ma in realtà leggendo la storia si ha un quadro ben diverso. Certo è stato punzecchiato nel suo orgoglio da Lady Mairi, ma anche se non vuole ammetterlo tiene veramente a lei, ma preferisce mantenere la facciata che si è costruito nel tempo; una tragedia del passato ha lasciato delle ferite profonde in lui e non è disposto a rischiare di ripetere lo stesso errore.

Lady Mairi è una donna coraggiosa, intraprendente e molto leale, nonostante il suo sia stato un matrimonio tutt'altro che felice, vuole comunque proteggere la famiglia del marito.

I continui battibecchi tra i due, pieni di ironia e frecciatine li ho trovati molto divertenti, e l'attrazione presente tra i due ha dato vita a una storia intrigante e appassionata.

4 stars for this second book in the series Scottish Brides by Nicola Cornick.  A very we'll-written story for this regency, with two nice characters: Jack the rake greatly appreciated by the fairer sex and Lady Mairi a widow without considerable fortune left by her previous husband.

Between the two the first meeting was a disaster, Jack according to his costume tried to make a move with her during the baptism of Mairi nephew and the woman Made crystal clear, in a glacial way, that she was not interested. The second meeting between the two? Night of passion after un masquerade, without any idea of the true identity of each other.

Definitely a start with fireworks.

Lady Mairi after recognizing her lover  decide to evaporate leaving the poor man "seduced and abandoned". There's a first time for everything, and this is for Jack, who cannot forget the mysterious woman.

 Due to the strong bond between Mairi's brother-in-law and Jack, the two are destined to meet again and finally the man recognizes in her the woman who he is still obsessed with.

A blackmail, which concerns a secret of her husband's past could lead to ruin Lady Mairi and the husband's family, she must accept the help of Jack and fake to be' bethroted with him, who can protect her, while they try to unmask the author of the threats. Jack agrees to play this role, but he isn't entirely disinterested: he has every intention to persuade the woman to have a relationship with him more than platonic.

So superficially Jack may seem a man cold and selfish, but actually reading the story I found a very different picture of him. Of course he took a stake in his pride by Lady Mairi, but even if he doesn't want to admit it he really cares for her, but he prefers to maintain the facade that has built up over time; a tragedy of the past has left deep wounds in him and he is not willing to repeate the same mistake.

Lady Mairi is a courageous woman, stubborn, smart and very loyal, despite her marriage has been  far from happy, she still want to protect her husband's family.

Beetween the two there's a constant bickering, full of  irony and Jack's wicked ways,I found it very funny, and the attraction between them has created an intriguing and passionate story.

Terzo libro della serie The Bolton Brothers, e come si intuisce dal titolo vengono raccontate le vicende amorose di tre fratelli: Billy, Ben e Bobby, a ognuno la sua storia e il suo libro, che possono essere letti anche singolarmente. Mi viene quasi da chiamarli "The B Brothers", ma rispolvereremmo un altro genere di fratelli...In questo caso siamo alle prese con Bobby, lo scapolone di turno, che si concede solo avventure da una notte e non ama legarsi sentimentalmente a una donna, concentrando tutte le sue energie nella realizzazione di un progetto nel quale ha investito tutte le sue finanze.

La legge di Murphy vuole che incontri finalmente una donna che stravolge la sua vita e guarda caso sia la figlia dell'uomo che potrebbe distruggere i progetti di Bobby e le vite dei suoi fratelli.

Stella Cain non ha nessuna intenzione di rincontrare Bobby dopo la notte selvaggia trascorsa insieme, non perchè non sia attratta dall'uomo, ma è così condizionata dalla pesante presenza del padre nella sua vita che in realtà non riesce a cercare l'unica cosa di cui ha bisogno e quasi nessuno è stato in grado di darle: amore, calore, affetto. Per non soffrire, preferisce non provare.

Galeotto fu il preservativo e i due si trovano di fronte a una gravidanza inattesa e a fare i conti con i possibili cambiamenti nelle loro vite.

È un romance contemporaneo ben scritto, carino nel quale mi vien da dire si trova la conferma che uomo e donna seguono due filoni di pensiero totalmente diversi, oserei dire i famosi due mondi paralleli che sono destinati a non incontrarsi mai. Lui è disposto a mettersi in gioco, la volontà c'è, ma non sa cosa offrire a questa donna che potrebbe avere tutto grazie al suo status. Lei che potrebbe realizzare il sogno della sua vita, ma è così emotivamente fragile che non ha il coraggio di dire la verità e chiede a Bobby solo un accordo per il bambino per farlo essere presente nella vita del piccolo. Brr da brividi.

Bobby è un personaggio che mi è piaciuto molto, sicuro di sé, testardo, affascinante e affettuoso.

Stella l'ho trovata un po' troppo complessata e indecisa, mentre ho adorato la sua guardia del corpo, che le ha sempre dato l'affetto paterno di cui la ragazza aveva bisogno.

Ora però devo chiudere il cerchio e leggere i due libri sugli altri due B&B.

Third book in the series The Bolton Brothers, and as you can imagine from the title, the series is about the story of three brothers: Ben and Billy, Bobby, for each one his story and his book, which can also be read individually. I can almost call them "The B Brothers", but  they're another kind of brothers ...In this story we are dealing with Bobby, the bachelor guy, who loves the adventures by one night and doesn't want to bind himself emotionally with a woman. He spent all his energies in the realization of a project in which he invested all his finances. As Murphy's law says he finally encounters a woman who can changes his life and just happens to be the daughter of the man who could destroy Bobby's projects and the lives of his brothers.Stella Cain has no intentionwho see again Bobby after wild night they spent together, not because she is not attracted by the man, but she is so heavily conditioned by the presence of the father in her life that actually fails to find the only thing she needs, and almost no one was able to give her: love, warmth, affection. In order not to suffer, she prefers loneliness. But the faith and a failed condom put the two togetheAarianna face an unexpected pregnancy and to deal with possible changes in their lives.It is a well written contemporary romance, cute, I feel like saying that speaks the confirmation that man and woman have two totally different paths of thought, I daresay the famous two parallel worlds that are designed to meet ever. Bobby is willing to get involved, the will is there, but doesn't know what to give to this woman who could have everything thanks to her status. Stella could realize the dream of her life, but she is so emotionally fragile that she doesn't have the courage to tell the truth and she asks Bobby just an agreement for the child to be present in the life of a child. Brr chills.Bobby is a character that I really liked, confident, stubborn, charming and affectionate.Stella I found it a bit too complexed and indecisive, while I loved her bodyguard, who has always given the paternal affection that she needed.But now I have to close the circle and read the two books on the other two B&B.

Consumato dal desiderio di vendetta... E dal desiderio.

Catturato dal suo nemico e incatenato come un cane, Leif Egilsson ha un solo pensiero nella sua testa: la vendetta. Non è più ammalliato dall'ingannevole bellezza di Lady Astrid e dalla sua apparente innocenza, che lo aveva spinto a desiderarla intensamente.

Dopo la sua fuga l'intenzione di questo orgoglioso e fiero vichingo è di farle agate a caro prezzo il suo tradimento... Nel suo letto. Solo che Astrid possiede il cuore di un guerriero e non si farà domare con la facilità che lui crede.

Che dire di questo libro? Cover, sinossi e titolo sono abbastanza ingannevoli confronto al contenuto del libro. "Defiant" non corrisponde esattamente all'idea che mi sono fatta di Astrid, anzi l'ho trovata fin troppo arrendevole quando il suo tutore e il nemico di Leif l'hanno coinvolta nel tentativo di denigrare il povero vichingo, mi sarei aspettata qualcosa di più da parte sua per aiutare l'uomo a scappare, invece si lascia intimorire e obbedisce come un cagnolino alle richieste degli uomini che hanno reso schiavo l'uomo che l'aveva liberata in precedenza da un sequestro.

Leif da parte sua, una volta tornato in libertà medita  vendetta anche nei confronti di Astrid,  vuole restituirle la pariglia, ma in fondo le sue sono solo minacce, si lascia convincere un po' troppo facilmente della buona fede della donna.

Solo nel finale c'è un pizzico di ribellione da parte di Astrid, prende in mano le redini del suo destino e sfida Leif e meno male direi.

Gli unici personaggi che ho trovato convincenti sono stati i nemici di Leif, veramente dotati di menti perverse e crudeli.

Terzo libro della serie Victorious Vikings, la storia si può leggere da sola, sono presenti come personaggi secondari alcuni dei protagonisti dei libri precedenti con dei riferimenti ai fatti avvenuti in precedenza che hanno scatenato una vera e propria faida nella quale si trovano coinvolti Leif e Astrid.

On his escape, this fierce, proud Viking is bent on making her pay the price of her betrayal—in his bed! Only, Astrid has the heart of a warrior, and she will not be tamed as easily as he believes….

What can I say about this book? The cover, the title and the synopsis are quite misleading compared to the content of the book. "Defiant" does not correspond exactly about what I thought about Astrid, indeed I found her far too yielding when his guardian and Leif's enemy have involved her trying to denigrate the poor Viking, I would have expected something more from her for helping him to escape, instead she cowed and obeys like a lapdog to the demands of the men who enslaved the man who had released her previously by a kidnapping.

Leif on his part, once back in freedom ponders revenge even against Astrid, he wants to made her pay, but basically he made just threats, he trusted a bit too easily in the good faith of the woman.

Only at the end there is a hint of rebellion on the part of Astrid, she takes over the reins of her destiny and she challenges Leif and thank goodness I'd say.

The only characters that I found compelling were the enemies of Leif, really with perverse and cruel minds.

Its the third book in the Victorious Vikings series, the story can be read alone, are present as minor characters some of the protagonists of the previous books with references to events that occurred earlier that have triggered a real feud in which are involved with Leif and Astrid.
