Knight in Highland Armor was really a nice reading and I think it's a great start to this new  Historical Romance series by Amy Jarecki.

The pair is well-matched, though the beginning of their story is a bit troubled.

Lord Colin Campbell is a brave warrior,  he has just lost his wife who died giving birth to their child. As if that weren't enough the man is summoned to fight another crusade in the Holy Land because of his experience and his value on the battlefield. He's forced to choose in haste a woman who can be a good stepmother for his child during his long absence. Not love or romance, but simple needs and he asks  to his Queen to help him in this choice.

Margaret is certainly not the woman who would have expected, young, beautiful, smart, strong-minded and disinclined to follow his orders, if she thinks it's better behave otherwise. The young woman was accustomed always to express her ideas and to help her father due to his skill and intelligence. She is also brilliant and she always dreamed of great love and what they called the "Black Knight" is certainly not her Prince charming ideal, and at the beginning Lord Colin does everything to confirm this thought of Margaret.

I enjoyed a lot reading their bickering and I enjoyed Margaret's sharp tongue and her spirit. Despite being alone and young, involved in a arranged wedding, she isn't cowed by her husband, and she tries to help him and earn his respect and approval.

Lord Colin could be unforgivable for how he dealt with her form the very start of their wedding,  but thanks to the fact that the author has given us his point of view in this story, we can realize how much he is grieving the loss of his prevoius wife and especially as he feels guilty about his attraction towards Margaret. He is in a difficult position and I liked the space that has been given him to deal with this crisis.

I also enjoyed the historical setting chosen for this story, during the Crusades and how Ms Jarecki has managed to highlight how could be difficult to live a love story in such extreme conditions. No tv or phones with news about the war, letters that could be lost and never received for years. Love stories so difficult to carry out, but for this so intense and full of passion and love.

Beautiful book, recommended for those who loves this genre.

Knight in Highland Armor è stata una lettura davvero piacevole e credo un ottimo inizio per questa nuova serie Historical Romance di Amy Jarecki.

La coppia è decisamente ben assortita, anche se l'inizio della loro storia è un po' travagliata.

Lord Colin Campbell è un guerriero valoroso, ha appena perso la moglie che è morta mettendo alla luce il loro bambino. Come se non bastasse l'uomo viene convocato per combattere un'altra crociata in Terra Santa vista la sua esperienza e il suo valore sul campo di battaglia. Si vede costretto a dover scegliere in fretta e furia una donna che possa fare da madre al figlio durante la sua lunga assenza. Non amore e romanticismo, ma semplice necessità e chiede aiuto alla sua Regina per aiutarlo in questa scelta.

Margaret non è senz'altro la donna che si sarebbe aspettato, giovane, bellissima, sveglia e poco incline a seguire i suoi ordini, se pensa sia meglio comportarsi in altro modo. La giovane donna è stata abituata da sempre a esprimere le sue idee e ad aiutare il padre grazie alla sua bravura e intelligenza. È però anche vivace e da sempre sogna il grande amore e quello che tutti chiamano il "Black Knight" non è certo il suo principe azzurro ideale, e Lord Colin sin dall'inizio fa di tutto per confermare questo pensiero di Margaret.

Mi sono divertita molto nel leggere i loro battibecchi e ho apprezzato la lingua tagliente di Margaret e il suo spirito. Nonostante sia sola e giovane, coinvolta in un matrimonio arrangiato, non si lascia intimorire dal marito, e comunque tenta di aiutarlo e guadagnare la sua stima e approvazione.

Lord Colin all'inizio sarebbe imperdonabile, ma grazie al fatto che l'autrice ci ha fornito anche il suo punto di vista in questa storia, ci si può rendere conto quanto stia soffrendo per la perdita della moglie e soprattutto come si senta in colpa per l'attrazione che prova verso Margaret. È in una posizione difficile e mi è piaciuto lo spazio che gli è stato dato per affrontare questo suo momento di crisi.

Mi è piaciuto anche l'ambientazione storica scelta per questa storia, durante le Crociate e come Ms Jarecki abbia saputo mettere in evidenza quanto potesse essere difficile vivere una storia d'amore a distanza in condizioni così estreme. Niente telefoni o tv con notizie sulla guerra, lettere che potevano andar perse e mai ricevute per anni. Storie d'amore difficili da portare avanti, ma per questo intense e piene di passione e amore.

Bel libro, consigliato a chi ama questo genere.

My attention was captured by the cover of the book and reading the synopsis I thought was a new book about Highlanders and it's One of my favorite genre, but I wasn't impressed during its reading.

I didn't fall in love with the two protagonists and I didn't feel myself particularly involved from the love-story between them.

The plot was interesting, full of background and plots and  it has been given ample space to the minor characters. Let's say I found myself follow with more pleasure their stories than  reading about Gavyn and Kathryn.

Too bad, because it had large potential according to me, but maybe  it was me to fail to appreciate it fully.

La mia attenzione è stata sicuramente catturata dalla copertina del libro e leggendo la sinossi ho pensato fosse uno dei miei libri sugli Highlander da non perdere e invece la scintilla per questa storia non è scoccata.

Non sono entrata in sintonia con i due protagonisti e non mi sono sentita particolarmente coinvolta dalla parte romance del libro che li riguardava.

La trama era comunque interessante, piena di retroscena e complotti e ai personaggi secondari è stato dato ampio spazio. Diciamo che quasi mi sono ritrovata a seguire con più piacere le loro storie che a leggere di Gavyn e Kathryn.

Peccato, perché aveva delle grosse potenzialità secondo me, ma forse sono stata io a non riuscire ad apprezzarlo appieno.

The story is somewhat different from the other books I have read so far about the Highlanders.

Both protagonists are going through a difficult period in their lives.

Alexander flees from his clan, he needs space and time to deal with his feelings of guilt related to the death of his wife. He needs to reorder his thoughts, but his journey begins right in the wrong way and after facing on his boat  a storm , he lands on British territory where certainly doesn't give him a warm welcome, indeed he is assaulted, robbed and left inconscious to sure death.

Lady Jane is a woman escaped to a life marked by constant abuse and ill-treatment by her husband. She is so happy and thankful to have survived her marriagce is content to live her life in a little home, in very poor condition, with the help of an old servant who provides her the bare minimum to survive. I felt so musc tenderness foe her, usually I love female figures with another kind of characteristics, but Jane has really impressed me for her simplicity, her generosity in helping Alexander when he finds himself badly wounded. Despite everything she has passed because of her husband, she didn't change herself.

Alexander perceives that Lady Jane hides secrets and that her standard of living and her origins are quite different from what  appearances show, but ne wants tandamento something for her in exchange for her help and he can take time to decide his future.

He's man of honor, that in addition to a strong attraction for the woman, he feels the need to protect her.

Great story, well written, full of sweetness, passion and sometimes a little bit of humor.

Fourth book of the series Highland Force by Amy Jarecki.

Racconto un po' diverso dagli altri libri che ho finora letto e che hanno per protagonisti gli Highlanders.

Entrambi i protagonisti stanno attraversando un periodo difficile nella loro vita.

Alexander fugge dal suo clan, ha bisogno di spazio e tempo per affrontare i suoi sensi di colpa legati alla morte della moglie. Io la vedo un po' come una pausa di riflessione della quale ha bisogno per riordinare i suoi pensieri, ma il suo viaggio inizia subito nel modo più sbagliato e dopo aver affrontato sulla sua imbarcazione una tempesta in mare, approda su territorio inglese dove certo non gli danno un caloroso benvenuto, anzi viene assalito, derubato e ridotto in fin di vita.

Lady Jane è una donna sfuggita a una vita costellata dai continui abusi e maltrattamenti da parte del marito. È così felice e riconoscente di essere sopravvissuta al suo matrimonio che si accontenta di vivere la sua vita in una abitazione di fortuna, in pessime condizioni, e accentando l'aiuto di un suo vecchio servitore che le fornisce il minimo indispensabile per sopravvivere. Il suo è un personaggio che mi ha fatto molta tenerezza, di solito amo figure femminili con un altro genere di caratteristiche, ma Jane mi ha veramente colpito per la sua semplicità, la sua generosità nell'aiutare Alexander quando lo ritrova gravemente ferito. Nonostante tutto quello che ha passato a causa del marito non si è lasciata prendere dal cinismo.

Alexander percepisce che Lady Jane nasconde dei segreti e che il suo tenore di vita e le sue origini sono ben diverse da quello che mostrano le apparenze, ma in cambio dell'aiuto ricevuto e per prendere tempo per decidere il suo futuro decide di aiutarla.

Un uomo d'onore, che oltre a una forte attrazione per la donna, sente il sé il bisogno di proteggerla.

Bella storia, ben scritta, ricca di dolcezza, passione e a volte anche un pizzico di umorismo.

Quarto libro della serie Highland Force di Amy Jarecki.

Searc Munro, il guerriero delle Highland, ha anche lui un segreto. In una famiglia di guaritori come la sua, la magia oscura che possiede, che può uccidere, deve essere tenuta nascosta. Compagni d'esilio Elena e Searc si dirigono verso Edinburgo per trovare rifugio. Invece una serie di omicidi rituali che affliggono la città e un traditore che tenta di assassinare la reggente di Scozia, fanno ricadere i sospetti  su Searc. Quando le voci dell'esistenza di un altro erede al trono britannico raggiungono il Paese, i due devono trovare il modo di fidarsi uno dell'altra, nonostante i loro segreti, prima che sia troppo tardi.

Altro libro che va ad aggiungersi alle mie letture historical romance che hanno per protagonisti gli Highlander.

Crimson Heart è stata un libro molto gradevole da leggere, scritto bene, con una buona trama e dei personaggi interessanti.

La magia del cui potere Searc è dotato sin dalla nascita, o più una maledizione, visto come viene vissuta dall'uomo, aggiunge qualcosa di diverso a questa storia; è un  personaggio intenso, un po' cupo, ma coraggioso, leale, testardo e un uomo d'onore.

Mi è piaciuto da subito, nonostante sia un uomo che porta un po' con difficoltà il peso del suo potere, si isola dagli altri, fugge dai suoi cari per la paura di vedere nei loro occhi lo sguardo di persone impaurite o  disprezzo per quello che lui è. Ma nei momenti che ontano tutto questo viene messo da parte e il guerriero che è in lui prende il posto dell'uomo tormentato da mille dubbi e sensi di colpa.

Elena è anche lei una donna molto singolare, nasconde la sua vera identità perché vuole vivere una vita libera e lontana da intrighi e complotti legati al suo sangue reale. Preferisce  piuttosto lavorare presso qualche famiglia che rivendicare il suo titolo, ma la scelta non entusiasma altre persone che invece la vorrebbero usare. Coraggiosa, anche se a volte a causa della sua ingenuità le cose le sfuggono un po' di mano, intelligente e non si lascia spaventare da Searc e la sua magia, una volta che lo incontra, nonostante tutte le superstizioni dell'epoca.

Il loro viaggio per Edinburgo diventa una vera e propria avventura, nella quale l'attrazione che provano uno verso l'altro avrà la una importanza.

Loro sono una bella coppia, ma anche i personaggi secondari mi sono piaciuti: i genitori di Searc, i Munro, a loro volta una bellissima coppia nella quale amore, complicità e ironia sono evidenti e Mary, la regina, è una donna notevole, divertente ma pericolosamente letale.

Una storia nella quale ho trovato diverse componenti interessanti: intrighi, segreti, un mistero legato alla morte orribile di diverse ragazze innocenti, passione, amore e magia.

Insomma un bel po' di cose direi.

Another book that I can add to my reading historical romance about the Highlanders.

Crimson Heart was a very enjoyable book to read, well written, with a good plot and interesting characters.

The magic and the power that Searc has since his birth, or a curse, as is experienced by the man, adds something different to this story; he's intense as fictional character, a littore dark, but brave, loyal, stubborn and a man of honor.

I liked him immediately, although he's a man carrying the weight of his power, isolates from the others, he escapes from his loved ones for fear to see in their eyes a look full of fear for what he is; But when the times get tough, he puts aside everything and the Warrior in him takes the place of a man tormented by a thousand doubts and feelings of guilt.

Elena is also a very unique woman, she's hiding her true identity because she wants to live a free life and away from intrigues and conspiracies related to her actual bloodline. She prefers rather to work for some family beside that claim her title, but this choice is not enthused that other people would like to use her. Courageous, even if sometimes due to her naivety things escape a little from her hand, intelligent and she's not scared from Search and his magic, despite all the superstitions of the time.

Their trip to Edinburgh becomes a real adventure, in which the attraction they feel for one another will have its importance.

They are a lovely couple, but I liked also the minor characters: Searc's parents, the Munro, a beautiful couple their love, complicity and irony are obvious and Mary, the Queen, is a remarkable woman, funny but dangerously fatal.

A story in which I found several interesting components: intrigue, secrets, a mystery tied to the horrible death of several innocent girls, passion, love and magic.

In short, a lot of things I would say.

Each book historical romance that in its title that contains the words "Scottish" or "Highlander" I cannot help myself but it end up in my e-reader.
Not always are good readings, but in this case the very American Ms Adrienne Basso was a wonderful surprise.
Bride of a Scottish Warrior is a one-shot book, very well written: a nice plot, with two excellent characters, Ewan and Grace, in which I could not find a flaw, while lately I've read about male characters somewhat disappointing in some ways.
Ewan is an amazing man: a warrior who does not belong to any clan, he is an illegitimate child, one of the most serious faults for that time and it is something that has affected and heavily influence his and his mother's life. However, this has never stopped him to build a better future for himself. He has been able to make a difference and win the respect of all who knew him, thanks to his valour and commitment as a fighter, alongside Robert Bruce, for the conquest of the Crown of Scotland. The new King to repay his formidable warrior  grant him one of the most valuable things for a man in a position like Ewan: to become the owner of a land in the Highlands, where to build his home and be the laird of the people who live there.  Upon his arrival Ewan remains impressed by the wild beauty of the Valley, but soon he realizes that the war left the people very poor : there are only women, children and the elderly and the work to be done is much, but Ewan did not hurry, decide with calm to win the trust of the people, without forcing their hand and to revive the fortunes of this place he decides to find a wife who will bring a rich dowry.
Due his origin is nearly hopeless task, but thanks to the respect and friendship of a former comrade in arms he finds the ideal candidate, the sister of the man himself.
However, two problems arise: Lady Grace, widowed recently, has already received a promise from his brother that she will not be forced into a new marriage and she wants to retire to a convent. Ewan, after they met, he realizes he can't and doesn't want to settle for any other lady than Grace to become his wife.
In fact the woman is far from immune to the appeal of Ewan and his attempts to court her, but she hides a secret in her past that makes her to deny what she feels for him, and she prefers to seek shelter, instead, in a place where she believes she can find peace with herself.
Ewan and Grace play roles of equal importance in the story in the book and the author has carefully studied the various aspects of their characters, creating a beautiful couple.
I appreciated the fact that the reason for which Grace builds barricades on barricades to prevent Ewan to conquer, is then revealed to him with the utmost frankness and sincerity from the same woman. No cheats or tricks in this important book node. So as I really enjoyed the change of Grace once the problem has come into the light of the sun. No more secrets and impediments between the two of them, the woman follows her heart and her passion for Ewan, pointing her feet when she needs  to get his attention.
Important in story is the figure of Ewan's mother, a woman whose life was not easy, and that the pain and experience have made  a little tough. Her relationship with Grace is not a bed of roses at the beginning, and Ms. Basso has not succumbed to an easy peace between the two of them even when she could do it, making their relationship in many ways realistic.
A beautiful story full of irony, love, passion and plot twists that make it not so obvious that there is a happy ending.

A Sword Upon the Rose is a beautiful historical romance novel, well written, set in a Scotland divided by war between the Comyn and people faithful to Robert the Bruce, who claims for himself the title of King of Scotland.

Alana and Iain are deployed on two opposing sides. He is one of the best men in the service of Robert Bruce, a true Warrior, in certain circumstances, even ruthless, because this is what he must be.  Destroying entire cities, sowing fear and terror in ordinary people, to make sure that in the future they think twice before taking sides in favor of the British, for him everything can be done in favor of the cause of Robert the Bruce and his loyalty has never a hesitation even in front of his attraction to Alana.

The girl instead is full of doubts and uncertainty after her encounter with Iain. Her life was really very difficult, both because of the fact of being an illegitimate daughter, and for some qualities that make her special and leave her lonely. The only person who showed affection  for her and was nearby was her grandmother. She is a Comyn, Robert Bruce's enemy and the feelings she feels for Iain put her a very difficult position. The duty to be loyal towards her family collide with her feelings for Iain.

she hides her true identity and this choice start the ups and downs of her relationship with Iain.

I can't claim them "perfect couple romance of the year". They make many mistakes, always arrive at the edge of a breakdown that seems inevitable, but in one way or another they always forgive  the other and this is their strength and the beauty of their story in the book.

There were moments in which I found very wrong Iain and his behavior with Alana, but it must be said that she sometimes it seems she is searching for trouble... The first lie told by Alana once discovered makes Iain very angry, she has the opportunity to tell him the other things that she hides, and instead she continues to omit or lie, for fear of losing  him and I have to say: "stubborn as a mule!"

What I appreciated Alana is that despite all of her uncertainties, she takes brave and dangerous choices, which do not leave for her never the chance to avoid the consequences, but to save Iain's life she's ready to do anything.

When it comes to obey his orders our dear Alana make the opposite and her stubbornness to follow her heart, to save her sisters, endangering herself and her relationship with Iain, has made me love her even more.

A passionate and compelling story.

The book actually is the 2nd book in the Scottish Medieval series by Brenda Joyce, but the great thing about these stories is that they can be read easily even as separate stories.

Not to be missed for those who love historical romance books

Carino questo historical romance, dove il capoclan Calum MacLeod è costretto a trasformarsi in pirata, per sfamare la misera gente del suo clan.

Era un'impresa quasi impossibile riuscire a riportare un minimo di benessere tra la gente che gli è stata affidata, ma Calum è stato scelto proprio perchè poteva essere l'unico a riuscire nell'impresa.

E visto che non corre buon sangue con gli inglesi, perchè non trasformarsi in una sorta di Robin Hood, e procurare cibo e mezzi di sostentamento ai suoi in questo modo?

Non tutte le ciambelle riescono col buco però: a bordo della nave che viene assalita, è presente una giovane nobildonna inglese,Lady Anne, che sta raggiungendo il marito al quale è stata sposata per procura, per volere dei suoi parenti e della regina stessa.

Lady Anne non è felice di questo matrimonio, con un uomo che non conosce e che potrebbe essere suo nonno.

Il suo viaggio verso l'ignoto potrebbe trasformarsi in un incubo, a causa del suo rapimento per chiedere un riscatto al marito.

In realtà condotta nell'isola di Raasay, la donna può toccare con mano l'estrema indigenza delle persone che ci abitano e si trova anche di fronte alla loro profonda adorazione per il bellissimo pirata che l'ha rapita.

Vorrebbe odiarlo e temerlo, ma le è impossibile.

Lady Anne e Calum provano una profonda attrazione l'uno per l'altra, ma per loro non è né il momento giusto, né il luogo giusto ed entrambi devono fare i conti con i propri doveri verso gli altri.

La donna è la moglie del peggior nemico che ci possa essere per Calum e nonostante l'uomo desideri tenerla con sé, non può rischiare di essere la causa di distruzione e morte per la sua gente. Ma le ragioni del cuore seguono sempre quelle della mente?

Il libro è ben scritto, con una buona trama di fondo e sia i personaggi principali che secondari sono ben caratterizzati e creano un buon gruppo, che è uno dei punti di forza di questo libro.

Ho adorato tutta la parte ambientata nell'isola di Raasay, all'interno del clan. Lady Anne riesce a farsi amare da tutti e si inserisce nella vita di tutti i giorni del clan con perfetta naturalezza.

Calum è veramente un bel protagonista maschile, mi è piaciuto molto, nonostante tutti i suoi conflitti interiori, per i sentimenti che prova per Lady Anne, che per lui potrebbero essere solo fonte di guai.

Da subito l'attrazione e la passione tra di loro è innegabile, le scene d'amore tra loro sono scritte molto bene.

L'autrice ha dato molto spazio al cattivo di turno, il marito di Lady Anne, un personaggio che ho trovato viscido e odioso, oltre che crudele; viste le gentili parole espresse per lui capirete che secondo me, da questo punto di vista, si poteva farla anche un po' più breve.

Questo è il primo libro della serie Highland Force, e oserei dire che promette bene.

This is a very nice historical romance where the Laird Calum MacLeod is forced to become a pirate, to feed the poor people of his clan.

It was almost an impossible task to bring a minimum of well-being among people of the keep in the isle of Raasay, but Calum was chosen precisely because he was the only one to succeed in the mission.

And since it doesn't run good blood with the English, why not become a sort of Robin Hood, and provide food and livelihood for his people in this way, becoming a pirate?

Things can't be expected to turn out right everytime, so: aboard the ship choosen by Calum for the attack, there is a young English noblewoman, Lady Anne, who is reaching the husband to whom she was married by proxoffri the will of her relatives and the Queen herself.

Lady Anne is not happy about this marriage with a man who does not know and that might be her grandfather.

Her journey into the unknown might turn into a nightmare, because of her abduction to demand a ransom to her husband.

Actually when she arrives on the island of Raasay, the woman can see the extreme poverty of the people who live there and she  also discovers their profound adoration for the handsome pirate who has kidnapped her.

She would hate and fear him, but it is impossible.

Lady Anne and Calum feel a deep attraction for each other, but to them is neither the right time nor the right place and both must come to terms with their own duties towards others.

The woman is the wife of the worst enemy that there may be for Calum and despite the man want to keep her with him, he cannot risk being the cause of destruction and death to his people. But do the reasons of the heart always follow those of the mind?

The book is well written with a good plot, both the main and the secondary characters are well characterized and create a good group, which is one of the strengths of this book.

I loved all the part that takes place in the island of Raasay, with the clan. Everyone Fall in love with Lady Anne and she fits extraordinary well in the life of the clan, with perfect naturalness.

Calum is really a wonderful maleprotagonist, I really liked him, despite all his inner conflicts with his feelings for Lady Anne, which for him might be only source of trouble.

The attraction and passion between them is undeniable, the love scenes between them are written very well and really hot.

The author has given a lot of space to the bad man, the husband of Lady Anne, a character that I found vicious and hateful and cruel; thanks to the kind words I expressed for him you will understand that in my opinion, from this point of view, she could make it a little shorter.

This is the first book of the series Highland Force, and I daresay that it's a godd start for it.

Highlanders è un'antologia di tre novelle di altrettante scrittrici di romanzi historical romance pubblicati dalla Harlequin, in questo caso la fanno da padrone i nostri amati Highlanders.

I racconti si inseriscono nel panorama delle diverse serie scritte da Brenda Joyce, Terri Brisbin e Michelle Willingham, ma possono si possono leggere anche come brevi storie a sé stanti.

The Warrior and the Rose by Brenda Joyce

Lady Juliana MacDougall prega che i suoi cari possano fare ritorno sani e salvi dalla battaglia contro Robert Bruce... Ma la battaglia la raggiunge quando le sue terre vengono attaccate da un gruppo di Highlander, nel quale è presente un uomo che indossa i colori del peggior nemico del suo clan. Presa in ostaggio da Alasdair Og, Juliana ben presto scopre che oltre a essere uno spietato guerriero è anche uno straordinario amante. Ma come può Juliana amare Alasdair che è il suo nemico mortale?

Dei tre questo è il racconto che ho preferito, mi sono piaciuti molto sia i protagonisti Juliana e Alasdair, che la loro storia. Lei è intelligente, determinata, coraggiosa e impulsiva; Alasdair è senza scrupoli quando deve difendere il suo clan, leale, gentile e molto attraente. Se si mette in testa una cosa fa di tutto per ottenerla e in questo caso ha puntato Juliana.

Novella breve, ma appassionante e ben scritta.

The Forbidden Highlander (The MacLeries #6.5) by Terri Brisbin

Fidanzato a una donna in base a un accordo di mutuo interesse tra clan, James Murray non si sarebbe mai aspettato di innamorarsi, invece, della più cara amica della sua futura sposa. La passione che nasce tra James ed Elisabeth MacLerie non si può negare, ma entrambi si ritrovano combattuti tra il loro amore e la lealtà verso i loro clan.

Ho imparato a conoscere questa serie della Brisbin  dai libri più recenti, ma merita di essere apprezzata sin dall'inizio. I MacLerie hanno un capoclan di tutto rispetto: The Beast of the Highland e, già dal suo soprannome, si può capire quanto la decisione di James Murray, di non voler sposare la donna a cui è legato dagli accordi tra i clan, possa essere difficile da prendere. Preferisco il personaggio di James, più deciso sin dall'inizio della storia, mentre Elisabeth l'ho trovata un po' troppo titubante, ma alla distanza mi è piaciuta molto anche lei. Bellina la loro storia, da leggere senza dubbio per i lettori appassionati della Brisbin; i suoi personaggi sono sempre molto combattuti, ma le storie d'amore tra di loro appassionate e romantiche.

Rescued by the Highlander Warrior (MacKinloch Clan #3.5) by Michelle Willingham

Celeste de Laurent è determinata a non dover più affrontare la vita in condizioni di povertà. Dopo aver sacrificato l'amore in cambio di un matrimonio sicuro, adesso si ritrova, vedova, con il rischio di perdere tutto. La sua unica speranza è di mettere al mondo un erede... e quale uomo migliore, per mettere al mondo un figlio, e salvarla da un orribile destino, che Dougal MacKinloch, l'unico uomo che abbia mai amato?

Questo racconto, invece, è quello che ho gradito un po' meno, visto la "brillante" idea con la quale Celeste voleva salvare l'eredità lasciatale dal marito.

 Dougal è un personaggio maschile stupendo, un bel tenebroso, un po' scostante, ma irresistibile e dopo la delusione del passato a causa di Celeste, il solo fatto che lei abbia pensato a lui come primo candidato per concepire un erede "falso" mi è sembrata un po' una cosa meschina.

Il racconto è ben scritto, la Willingham è davvero bravissima nel raccontare storie d'amore così appassionate, ma a me Celeste proprio non è andata giù.

Highlanders is an anthology of three novellas by as many writers of historical romance novels  published by Harlequin, in this case we can read about our beloved  Highlanders.

The stories are part of different series written by Brenda Joyce, Terri Brisbin and Michelle Willingham, but the nobels can also be read as a standalone short stories.

The Warrior And The Rose by Brenda Joyce

Lady Juliana MacDougall prays for her loved ones to survive battle against Robert Bruce... but the battle comes to her when her lands are attacked by a band of Highlanders, including a man wearing the colors of her clan’s worst enemy. Taken hostage by Alasdair Og, Juliana quickly learns he’s as exceptional a lover as he is a ruthless warrior. But how can she ever love Alasdair when he’s her blood enemy?

Of the three this is the story that I preferred, I liked a lot both the protagonists Juliana and Alasdair and their story. She is intelligent, determined, brave and impulsive; Alasdair is without any scruples when he must defend his clan, loyal, polite and very compelling. If he puts in the head one thing, he makes everything to get it, and in this case bis target is on Juliana.

Short novel, with a very passionate story, well written.

The Forbidden Highlander (The MacLeries #6.5), by Terri Brisbin

 James and Elizabeth MacLerie is undeniable, but they are tornHonor-bound by an arranged betrothal, James Murray never anticipated falling in love with his intended bride’s dearest friend instead. The passion between between love and loyalty to their clans….

I read about this series of Brisbin from the last books of it, but deserves to be appreciated from the beginning. The MacLerie have their chieftain: The Beast of the Highland and already by his nickname you can understand how James Murray's decision not to marry the women who is tied by agreements between the clans can be hard to take. I prefer the character of James, more assertive since the beginning of the story, while I think Elisabeth is a little too hesitant, but at a distance I enjoyed her too.  Their story is very nice, to be read without a doubt for readers who enjoy  Ms Brisbin; her characters are always so conflicted, but  the stories of love between them passionate and romantic.

 Rescued By The Highland Warrior (MacKinloch Clan #3.5), by Michelle Willingham

Celeste de Laurent is determined to never again live in poverty. After sacrificing love for a secure marriage, she now stands to lose everything as a widow. Her only hope is to bear an heir - and what better man to father her child, and save her from a terrible fate, than Dougal MacKinloch, the only man she ever loved?

This story is the one I liked less, with the brilliant idea with whom Celeste wanted to save her propierty. Dougal is an amazing male character, strong, a little dark, but irresistible, and after the pain of the past due to Celeste, the mere fact that she thought about him as the first candidate to conceive a "fake" heir it's too bad.

The story is well written, Ms Willingham is really talented at telling stories of love so passionate, but I didn't love Celeste and this fact has influenced my opinion about the novel a lot.

One Hot Scot by Suzanne Enoch

Short novel carina per una piacevole e rapida lettura, soprattutto per chi ama il genere historical romance ambientato nelle Highlands, con tanto di kilt, clan ecc...

La prima parte del racconto mi è piaciuto molto, per lo stile pieno di ironia con il quale è stato scritto; Julia, la protagonista femminile, oltre a essere intelligente, determinata e coraggiosa, è anche molto divertente nel modo di pensare e affrontare tutto quello che è successo e trova un bel match in Duncan, il bell'Highlander.

Mentre sta partecipando al matrimonio di una zia a Inverness, Julia Prentiss viene letteralmente sollevata da terra da un uomo che la rapisce per mettere le mani sulla sua eredità. Julia riesce a fuggire dalla sua proprietà nelle Highlands, solo per ritrovarsi da sola, sperduta e inseguita in una terra sconosciuta. Quando si imbatte in un uomo nudo che fuoriesce da un lago, pensa di essere caduta dalla padella alla brace, oppure no?

Duncan Lenox vive circondato dai nemici, un MacLawry nella terra dei Campbell. Con tre sorelle a casa che contano su di lui è diventato un uomo molto cauto. Ma quando una stupenda donna inglese, dai capelli ramati non ha nessun altro a cui rivolgersi, si sente in obbligo di aiutarla. I due sono costretti a trascorrere la notte in un cottage abbandonato, mentre un infuria una bufera e i nemici li circondano, e scoprono una profonda passione reciproca che li potrebbe salvare oppure rovinarli.

Il loro approccio è veramente molto divertente e per questo mi aspettavo un po' di più da questo racconto, forse la sua brevità ha influito un po' nel rendere il seguito un po' troppo scontato e affrettato. La passione istantanea ok, ma che da subito si professino profondo e intenso amore mi sembra un po' inverosimile.

Ciò non toglie che io voglia leggere altri libri di questa autrice sempre con questo tema di fondo.

A nice short novel for a pleasant and quick reading, especially for those who love the genre historical romance set in the Highlands, complete with kilts, clan etc.

I liked very much the first part of the story, for its style full of humor by the way it was written; Julia, the female protagonist, as well as being smart, determined and courageous, is also very funny in the way she thinks and deal with everything that happened to her and she  finds a good match in Duncan, the handsome Highlander.

While attending her aunt's wedding in Inverness, Julia Prentiss is literally swept off her feet by a man who kidnaps her for her fortune. Julia manages to escape from his estate in the Highlands, only to find herself alone, lost, and hunted in a strange land. When she stumbles across a naked man in a lake, she thinks her luck has gone from bad to worse…or has it?

Duncan Lenox lives surrounded by enemies, a MacLawry in a land of Campbells. With three sisters at home who rely on him, he's become a very cautious man. But when an auburn-haired English beauty has nowhere else to turn, he feels obligated to help. When the two are forced to spend the night in an abandoned cottage while a storm rages and enemies circle, they find a mutual passion that could save -- or doom -- them both.

Their approach is truly a lot of fun but I was expecting a bit more from the plot, perhaps its brevity somewhat influenced, making the sequel a little too obvious and hurried. Instant passion is ok, but now the fact they profess each other deep and intense love it seems a bit far-fetched.

I'd love to read other books by this author always in this genre.

Anteprima: One Night with the Laird by Nicola Cornick

4 stelline per questo secondo libro della serie Scottish Brides di Nicola Cornick. Storia ben scritta, per questo regency, con due bei personaggi: Jack scapolo molto apprezzato dal gentil sesso e Lady Mairi vedova a cui il marito ha lasciato una considerevole fortuna.

Tra i due il primo incontro è andato tutt'altro che bene, lui, secondo suo costume, ci ha provato in occasione il battesimo del nipote di Mairi e lei ha pensato bene di chiarire, in modo glaciale, che non era interessata. Il secondo incontro tra i due? Notte di passione dopo un ballo in maschera, senza avere idea delle vere identità l'uno dell'altra.

Inizio decisamente scoppiettante.

Lady Mairi dopo aver riconosciuto il suo amante si volatilizza lasciandolo "sedotto e abbandonato". C'è una prima volta per tutto, e questa lo è per Jack, che non riesce a dimenticare la misteriosa donna.

A causa del forte legame tra il cognato di Mairi e Jack, i due sono destinati a rincontrarsi e finalmente l'uomo riconosce in lei la donna che lo sta ossessionando ancora con il suo ricordo.

Un ricatto, che riguarda un segreto del passato del marito,  potrebbe condurre in rovina Lady Mairi e i familiari del marito, la obbligano ad accettare l'aiuto di Jack e fingere di essere la sua fidanzata, per fare in modo che lui la possa proteggere, mentre tenteranno di smascherare l'autore delle minacce. Jack accetta di interpretare questo ruolo, in modo non del tutto disinteressato: ha tutte le intenzioni di convincere la donna ad avere con lui una relazione più che platonica.

Così superficialmente Jack può sembrare un tipo un po' freddo e calcolatore, ma in realtà leggendo la storia si ha un quadro ben diverso. Certo è stato punzecchiato nel suo orgoglio da Lady Mairi, ma anche se non vuole ammetterlo tiene veramente a lei, ma preferisce mantenere la facciata che si è costruito nel tempo; una tragedia del passato ha lasciato delle ferite profonde in lui e non è disposto a rischiare di ripetere lo stesso errore.

Lady Mairi è una donna coraggiosa, intraprendente e molto leale, nonostante il suo sia stato un matrimonio tutt'altro che felice, vuole comunque proteggere la famiglia del marito.

I continui battibecchi tra i due, pieni di ironia e frecciatine li ho trovati molto divertenti, e l'attrazione presente tra i due ha dato vita a una storia intrigante e appassionata.

4 stars for this second book in the series Scottish Brides by Nicola Cornick.  A very we'll-written story for this regency, with two nice characters: Jack the rake greatly appreciated by the fairer sex and Lady Mairi a widow without considerable fortune left by her previous husband.

Between the two the first meeting was a disaster, Jack according to his costume tried to make a move with her during the baptism of Mairi nephew and the woman Made crystal clear, in a glacial way, that she was not interested. The second meeting between the two? Night of passion after un masquerade, without any idea of the true identity of each other.

Definitely a start with fireworks.

Lady Mairi after recognizing her lover  decide to evaporate leaving the poor man "seduced and abandoned". There's a first time for everything, and this is for Jack, who cannot forget the mysterious woman.

 Due to the strong bond between Mairi's brother-in-law and Jack, the two are destined to meet again and finally the man recognizes in her the woman who he is still obsessed with.

A blackmail, which concerns a secret of her husband's past could lead to ruin Lady Mairi and the husband's family, she must accept the help of Jack and fake to be' bethroted with him, who can protect her, while they try to unmask the author of the threats. Jack agrees to play this role, but he isn't entirely disinterested: he has every intention to persuade the woman to have a relationship with him more than platonic.

So superficially Jack may seem a man cold and selfish, but actually reading the story I found a very different picture of him. Of course he took a stake in his pride by Lady Mairi, but even if he doesn't want to admit it he really cares for her, but he prefers to maintain the facade that has built up over time; a tragedy of the past has left deep wounds in him and he is not willing to repeate the same mistake.

Lady Mairi is a courageous woman, stubborn, smart and very loyal, despite her marriage has been  far from happy, she still want to protect her husband's family.

Beetween the two there's a constant bickering, full of  irony and Jack's wicked ways,I found it very funny, and the attraction between them has created an intriguing and passionate story.

Anteprima: The Highlander's Dangerous Temptation by Terri Brisbin

Nuovo libro della serie MacLeries (#7) di Terri Brisbin. Adoro questo genere di Historical Romance ambientato tra i clan delle Highlands del passato, in questo casosiamo nel 1375.

Devo ammettere che nonostante la lettura sia stata piacevole, grazie alle capacità dell'autrice di rendere molto scorrevole la storia, non sono rimasta completamente catturata dai due protagonisti Isobel e Athdar e questo influisce molto sul voto che ho dato al libro.

Lei è l'incarnazione del peccato.

Maledetto dalle tragedie del suo passato il famoso capoclan Highlander Athdar MacCallum ha votato se stesso a occuparsi della sua gente ed essere il loro protettore oltre che capo e ha giurato di non sposarsi mai più. Fino a quando viene completamente disarmato dalla bellezza che si rispecchia negli occhi innocenti di Isobel Ruriksdotter.

Isobel è attirata dalla vulnerabilità che percepisce dietro la facciata mostrata a tutti dal capoclan. Ma a causa della sua spaventosa reputazione, lui le è completamente proibito. Stare insieme potrebbe condurli verso il pericolo, ma al tempo stesso la tentazione di rischiare tutto, per assecondare la passione che li ossessiona, è impossibile da ignorare.

Mi è piaciuta molto la trama, nella quale il misterioso passato di Athdar, e la serie di morti che hanno costellato l'arco della sua vita, a un certo punto fa nascere una sorta di giallo, intorno a quello che succede a lui e ai suoi cari; ho già detto anche che il periodo storico e le storie sugli Highlander sono tra le mie letture preferite. Quello che trovo strano in questo libro è che quasi trovo più interessanti i personaggi secondari (Rurik, Connor, Jocelyn, ecc...), rispetto ai veri e propri protagonisti. Quindi devo assolutamente leggere i loro libri precedenti.

La coppia Athdar-Isobel non mi ha intrigato e a dispetto di quello che viene scritto nella sinossi, non vedo Isobel come questa grossa tentazione. Una cara ragazza, dolce, intelligente e così via, ma se si paragona al "peccato vivente" un po' più di malizia non sarebbe stata male. Athdar è troppo afflitto dai suoi sensi di colpa e non rispecchia il mio ideale di personaggio romance maschile.

Mi è piaciuto molto l'inserimento nel testo dei pensieri della persona che di nascosto trama la sua vendetta nei confronti di Athdar, spiandolo e cercando i suoi punti deboli, inquietante, ma ha creato un po' di suspance nella storia.

Non sono rimasta colpita dalla coppia Isobel-Athdar nell'essenza della loro storia d'amore a livello platonico, ma devo dire che tra le lenzuola i due fanno scintille e la scrittrice è bravissima nello scrivere scene intense e sensuali.

New book for The MacLeries series (# 7) by Terri Brisbin. I love this kind of Historical Romance set among Highland's clans in the past, in this case we are in 1375.

I have to admit that despite reading was pleasant, thanks to the ability of the author to write a story very smooth, I wasn't completely captured by the two protagonists Isobel and Athdar and this really affects the vote that I gave to the book.

She is sin personified.

Cursed by past tragedies, notorious Highlander Laird Athdar MacCallum has devoted himself to leading his people - and has vowed never to marry again. Until he is utterly disarmed by the innocent beauty in the eyes of Isobel Ruriksdottir.

Isobel is drawn to the vulnerability she senses behind the fearsome facade of the clan chief. But with his formidable reputation, he is strictly forbidden. Being together can only lead them into danger, yet the temptation to risk all for their perilous passion is impossible to ignore.

I liked the plot, in which the mysterious past of Athdar, and the number of deaths that have punctuated the arc of his life, at one point creates a kind of mistery, around what is happening to him and his loved ones; I said also that the period of history and novels about Highlanders are among my favorite readings. What I find odd in this book is that I find most interesting about the minor characters (Rurik, Connor, Jocelyn, etc. ..), compared to the real protagonists. Then I must read their previous books.

The couple Athdar-Isobel didn't intrigue me and in spite of what is written in the synopsis, I don't see how this Isobel could be a big temptation. A dear girl, sweet, smart and so on, but if you compare her to a  "living sin" a bit more malice could be a better thing. Athdar is too plagued by his guilt and he does not reflect my ideal of masculine romance character.

I really liked the inclusion in the text of the thoughts of the person who secretly plots his revenge against Athdar, stalking him and looking for his weaknesses, scary thing, but it created some suspense in the story.

I was impressed not by Isobel-Athdar pair in the essence of their romance platonic level, but I have to say that between the sheets the two make sparks and Ms Brisbin is talented in writing intense and sensual scenes.
