I found absolutely irresistible the " lovely grannies" who plot to find a worthy wife for their grandchildrens, they're so dangerous, and their grandchildrens are well aware of it, so they decide to make "tactical" trips to disappear a little bit, out of circulation.

Lord Adam Hawtorne isn't  a simple man because of his character, he doesn't care about what others could think about him, he hasn't the slightest interest in attending the members of high society, cultivate friendship and he doesn't mind to speak with a sincerity that borders on rudeness. His first marriage experience was a real tragedy, and he has no intention of making further attempts. The only good thing born from that Union was his daughter, who loves dearly, but he failed to build a real bond with her because of his shady and severe character.
Elena is hired as governess of the little one, but Adam immediately senses that something is hidden, the ways of the woman are too refined to be what she says.
Their attraction is undeniable, although Adam try anything to prevent things that could complicate  things between them.
The secrets  sooner or later come to the surface, and Elena  past is filled with complications and problems, that Adam cannot ignore, and to help her he decides to keep himself cold and distant, a questionable choice, but so like him.
I loved this story and its protagonists, as well as its storyline, perhaps not very original, but well written, definitely a brilliant start for this author and her new serie "A Season of Secrets".

Ho trovato,assolutamente irresistibile le "care nonnine" di questo libro che complottano per trovare una degna moglie per i loro nipoti, pericolosissime, e i cari nipoti ne sono ben consapevoli, tanto da decidere fare "viaggi in campagna" tattici per sparire un po' dalla circolazione.
Lord Adam Hawtorne non ha un carattere semplice, non ha il minimo interesse nel frequentare i membri dell'alta società, coltivarne l'amicizia e non si fa problrmi ad esprimersi con una sincerità che rasenta la maleducazione. La sua prima esperienza matrimoniale è stata a dir poco disastrosa, e non ha nessuna intenzione di fare ulteriori tentativi. L'unica cosa positiva nata da quell'unione è stata la figlia, che adora, ma con la quale non è riuscito ancora a costruire un vero e proprio legame, a causa del suo carattere ombroso e severe.
Elena viene assunta come governante della piccola, ma Adam intuisce subito, che qualcosa gli viene tenuto nascosto, i modi della donna sono troppo raffinati per essere quello che dice.
La loro attrazione è innegabile,nonostante Adam faccia di tutto per evitare che le cose si possano complicare tra loro.
I segreti però prima o poi vengono a galla, e il passato di Elena è pieno di complicazioni e problemi, che Adam non può ignorare, e per aiutarla decide di mantenersi freddo e distante, scelta alquanto discutibile, ma in linea con il suo carattere.
Mi è piaciuta molto questa storia e i suoi protagonisti, così come la sua trama, forse non originalissima, ma ben raccontata, decisamente un inizio brillante per questa autrice e la sua nuova serie A Season of Secrets.

I'm in love with Bronwen Evans and her Disgraced Lords series, in every book stories and characters never disappointed me. I could not wait to read Grayson and Portia, her abduction at the hands of Libertine Scholars' enemy. This group of friend rakes are so charming, but in the evolve of this series meet women able to tame them and capture their hearts.

I was very surprised by Portia, an amazing female character, I expected her to be more the classic damsel in distress and panicked, with Grayson who rushes to rescue her and instead I found myself in front of a strong and independent woman, who even when she could "put the hands" on the man who has always loved and wanted, is not willing to make compromises, she doesn't want to settle for a marriage of facade with him, she wants to live her life fully and follow her dreams and this cannot happen if Grayson is determined to keep her at distance.

Portia has lived in a home where love between her parents can be breathed in the air every day,and that's what she wants to build along with Grayson.

Grayson on his part,  lived in the same house with Portia's parents, after losing his family in a tragic accident, and he's afraid to get involved so much with feelings, because he knows what it's like to lose everything in a few seconds and he doesn't  want to expose himself ever more in life to so much pain.

I loved them for their sincerity towards each other, the attraction and passion they feel and that the author is so good at telling, with truly intense scenes.

The story is compelling, I love when the Libertine Scholars gather together, their irony of their speaks and the relationship of deep friendship and understanding that binds them. Always ready to protect their friends, even with not really Orthodox methods.

Slowly they are trying to discover the identity of their enemy that attempted to discredit them in the eyes of society and which is now moved to a harder and dangerous game, risking the lives of everyone.

I have a soft spot for Arend, so dark and full of secrets, I'm looking forward to his book, but I think the next story dedicated to Maitland, the Cold Duke, is unmissable, saw his first approach to what should be his future wife.

Adoro Bronwen Evans e la sua serie Disgraced Lords, in ogni libro storia e personaggi non mi hanno mai delusa. Non vedevo l'ora di poter leggere di Grayson e Portia, il rapimento di lei per mano dl nemico segreto dei Libertine Scholars, il gruppo di amici e affascinanti libertini che però nell'evolvere di questa serie incontrano delle donne capaci di domarli e catturare il loro cuore.

Sono rimasta molto sorpresa da Portia, un bellissimo personaggio femminile, me l'aspettavo più nella parte della classica damigella in pericolo e presa dal panico che Grayson accorre a salvare e invece mi sono ritrovata davanti a una donna fiera, indipendente, che anche quando potrebbe " mettere le mani" sull'uomo che ha sempre amato e desiderato, non è disposta a fare compromessi, non vuole accontentarsi di un matrimonio di facciata con lui, vuole vivere la sua vita appieno e seguire i suoi sogni e questo non può avvenire se Grayson è deciso a mantenere con lei le distanze.

Portia ha vissuto in una casa in cui l'amore tra i suoi genitori si respirava nell'aria tutti i giorni ed è quello che vuole costruire insieme a Grayson.

Grayson da parte sua, ha vissuto anche lui nella stessa casa con i genitori di Portia, dopo aver perso la sua famiglia inun tragico incidente, e ha paura di lasciarsi coinvolgere così tanto dai sentimenti, perché sa cosa vuol dire poter perdere tutto in pochi attimi e non vuole esporsi mai più nella vita a tale dolore.

Mi sono piaciuti per la loro sincerità l'uno verso l'altra, l'attrazione e la passione che nasce tra di loro e che l'autrice è così brava a raccontare, con scene veramente coinvolgenti.

La storia è scritta in modo avvincente, adoro quando i Libertine Scholars si ritrovano insieme, come si punzecchiano con la loro ironia e il rapporto di profonda amicizia e intesa che li lega. Sempre pronti a proteggere i loro amici, anche con metodi non proprio ortodossi.

Pian piano stanno cercando di scoprire l'identità del loro nemico che ha tentato di screditarli agli occhi della società e che ora è passato a un gioco più duro e pericoloso, mettendo a rischio la vita di tutti.

Io ho un debole per Arend, tenebroso e pieno di segreti, non vedo l'ora di poter il suo libro, ma comunque credo che la prossima storia dedicata a Maitland, the Cold Duke come lo chiamano, sia imperdibile, visto il suo primo approccio con quella che dovrebbe essere la sua futura compagna.

I love Ava March's regency books, I like her way of writing simple and smooth and her plots that speak of forbidden love and about a London that already at that time had many dark sides to hide at the sight of High Society.

Having a noble title and be the sole heir in life for a man at the time meant having him also a lot of pressure because of duties towards the whole family; among them there was also to make a good marriage and have heirs. Homosexuals were almost forced to live a double life, to avoid scandal, but also to prevent the jail itself, because in that civil Britain at the time there you were going to end, because sodomy was considered a crime.

 The love stories written by this author are always very passionate, romantic, but also a bit kinky. The reality, however, always seeps through her characters ' thoughts.

Jasper is a wonderful character, living and working in a brothel, with exclusively male clientele.  He is in love with Nathaniel for years, but he is quite realistic to look for evidence that sentiment towards his client. He knows that in life, outside the walls of the brothel, there is no place for a relationship between them, in the light of the sun.

 Over the years becomes the lover, confidant, friend, the only one with whom Nathaniel can be himself, and even his wildest fantasies forbidden.

From a financial point of view, Jasper could retire, but he indulges in order to continue to see Nathaniel, but when he realizes not being able to remain detached, the he is hopelessly in love, hedecides to make a change in his life, to think more to himself and start again from nothing a new existence, without Nathaniel.

I loved him for that, for his desire to try to build something, not only living the illusion of love, but to fight against his feelings, because he realizes he  deserves more than a few fabulous nights, with what still remains only a customer.

Nathaniel is a dear guy, Jasper is really like a friend and lover for him, but he had slices of salami on the eyes, he thinks himself in love with his childhood friend, but it's just an infatuation.  He just don't realize what Jasper became for him, of his importance in his life, until he loses him. 

Theirs is a beautiful story, a love that shows all its facets, I loved seeing them together, read what they had to say and I worshipped Jasper and the truth that seeped through his words and his thoughts.

For those who love the books M/M but also the regency I recommend this author and her books.

Struggle, terrible struggle to carry out the first part of the book. 

Following the thoughts and decisions of Prudence  was slightly tough for me and really I don't feel much sympathy for her.

Roan was already my kind of hero from the very beginning. His being a "stranger", an American barbarian land in English land, was a lot of fun. 

Going forward I was able to enjoy a little bit more of their adventure, but it's not a pair that will remain unforgettable for me.

We want to talk about Roan's baby sister? Aurora? After everything her brother does fore her, the poor guy came at the end of the world to prevent her from ruining herself alone because of her spirit of adventure, I would call her a real witch. Hateful and mindless.

I'm a little confused due, because I liked the other two books in this series. I am very sorry and I am willing to put a little doubt my common sense, perhaps between me and this book was not love at first sight".

Fatica, terribile fatica a portare avanti la prima parte del libro. 

Seguire i pensieri e le decisioni di Prudence mi è risultato un po' pesante e sinceramente non provavo per lei granché di simpatia.

Roan invece era già più nelle mie corde sin dall'inizio. Il suo essere "forestiero", un barbaro americano in terra inglese, è stato da subito molto divertente. 

Andando avanti sono riuscita a gustare un po' di più la loro avventura, ma non è una coppia che per me rimarrà indimenticabile.

Vogliamo parlare della cara sorellina di Roan? Aurora? Dopo quello che combina al fratello, che poveretto è venuto in capo al mondo per evitare che si rovinasse da sola seguendo il suo spirito di avventura, la definirei una vera strega. Odiosa e senza cervello.

E dire che gli altri due libri di questa serie mi erano piaciuti. Mi dispiace molto e sono disposta a mettere un po' in dubbio il mio buon senso, forse proprio tra me e questo libro "non era cosa", come si dice da noi.

Amazing book! And I sincerely believe Sara Ramsey is one of the best among the regency romances authors.
Her stories are never trivial, her heroines unpredictable and unusual for the time, strong, smart and funny and her male protagonists are absolutely magnificent.
Every time I fall in love with her stories and every time I find myself thinking about how much this author's books are beautiful and about her talent.
Callista is accustomed to live an adventurous life, following in the footsteps of his father, who abandoned the English high society, to travel and build his own merchant fleet. Lost both parents she didn't hesitate to take over the reins of the business, daring even the unthinkable for a British woman: to be in charge of American privateering ships,  attacking and capturing English ships and their precious loads.
She discover a new challenge, which will take place in an environment totally unknown to her, she could inherit Maidenstone Abbey, the home of her ancestors, the people so hated by his father, but that is something that she has never had in her life: a House, a place only for her, which  can become her refuge.
Actually she could win it in a weird contest  against her cousins: who of the three will choose a husband in the party considered the more interesting by judge Lord Ferguson, will have the home.
Callista wants to win at all costs, but it is also necessary to find the ideal candidate, one man facade, so she can manage her affairs.
A protagonist conventional and truly beautiful, but the Duke do Thorington is her worthy counterpart.
Full of charm and capable to use at best the importance and the awe that his title can arouse in people. He is on the brink of ruin, but before his creditors make everything public, Thorington wants to put his brothers and sisters in the best conditions, and what better occasion to find a rich heiress to one of them? The show he manages to put in motion and how he can dominate the scene is truly spectacular to read, but the unexpected meeting with Callista detract from the safety devices and the projects of this man so self-confident.
Together the two make fireworks, their exchanges of ideas are full of irony and sarcasm and the attraction that arises between them inevitable.
I loved both and reading their story has flown the pages, a story full of passion but also very romantic.
Callista sometimes manages to bring out the man hidden behind the facade of the Duke's ice, and he is so wonderful tender, a sweet man, passionate and protective. A man who is not afraid to give the right space to his woman, but at the same time he can become absolutely dominant if he thinks she can be in danger.
Duke of Thorns is the first book in the new series by Sara Ramsey Heiress Games and I can't wait to read the next book on Octavia, Callie's cousin, and Rafe, brother of Duke.

Bellissimo libro! E credo sinceramente che al momento Sara Ramsey sia una delle migliori tra le scrittrici di romanzi regency.
Le sue storie non sono mai banali, le sue eroine donne imprevedibili e inusuali per quell'epoca, forti, intelligenti e divertenti e i suoi protagonisti maschili assolutamente magnifici.
Ogni volta mi innamoro delle sue storie e ogni volta mi ritrovo a pensare quanto questa autrice scriva bene e abbia talento.
Callista è abituata a vivere una vita avventurosa, seguendo le orme del padre, che ha abbandonato l'Alta Società inglese, per viaggiare e costruire la sua flotta navale mercantile privata. Persi entrambi i genitori non ha esitato a prendere in mano le redini degli affari, osando anche l'impensabile per una donna di origine britannica: essere a capo di navi pirata americane che assaltano e conquistano navi inglesi e i loro preziosi carichi.
Si presenta a lei una nuova sfida, che avrà luogo in un'ambiente a lei totalmente sconosciuto, ereditare Maidenstone Abbey, la casa dei suoi antenati, la casa tanto odiata dal padre, ma che per lei rappresenta qualcosa che non ha mai avuto in vita sua: una casa, un posto suo concreto, che possa diventare il suo rifugio.

Una protagonista anti convenzionale e veramente splendida, ma il Duca do Thorington è la sua degna controparte.
Pieno di fascino e abituato a usare al meglio l'importanza e il timore reverenziale che il suo titolo sa suscitare nella gente. È sull'orlo della rovina, ma prima che i suoi creditori rendano tutto pubblico, Thorington vuole sistemare i suoi fratelli e le sue sorelle, e quale migliore occasione di trovare una ricca ereditiera per uno di loro? Lo show che riesce a mettere in moto e dome riesce a dominare la scena è veramente spettacolare da leggere, ma l'incontro inaspettato con Callista scalfisce le sicurezze e i progetti di quest'uomo così sicuro di sé.
Insieme i due fanno scintille, i loro scambi di idee sono pieni di ironia e sarcasmo e l'attrazione che nasce tra di loro inevitabile.
Ho amato entrambi e leggere la loro storia ha fatto volare le pagine, una storia piena di passione ma anche molto romantica.
Callista a volte riesce a far emergere l'uomo nascosto dietro la facciata del Duca glaciale, ed è un uomo stupendo tenero, dolce, passionale e protettivo. Un uomo che non ha paura a concedere il giusto spazio alla sua donna, ma che al tempo stesso diventa assolutamente dominante se pensa che possa essere in pericolo.
The Duke of Thorns è il primo libro nella nuova serie di Sara Ramsey Heiress Games e non vedo l'ora di poter leggere il prossimo libro su Octavia, cugina di Callie, e Rafe, fratello del Duca.

Very nice and sweet Regency to read.
At the beginning Justin Lord St. Claire is on the edge of the unbearable, he seems a bit vanesio and superficial, his reputation as a rake is well deserved and the worst was his will  to start courting  the poor Celestine for the reason more futile and wrong: do a spite to his sister-in-law.
Celestine is a wonderful character, sweet, simple and naive, but proud, she prefers to work as a guardian in a family of The high society, rather than being maintained by a dear relative.
She is not beautiful, but intelligent, generous and affectionate and all her qualities slowly are the  reasons in a changing  Lord St. Claire, without that not even he undestands immediately the strength of feelings for her and the responses she provokes in him.
St. Claire shows a gentleness to Celestine and surprising attention they do overcome prejudices that I initially felt against him.
Truly a beautiful story I recommend it to anyone who likes a reading full of romance.

Regency molto carino e dolce da leggere.
All'inizio Lord Justin St. Claire è al limite dell'insopportabile, sembra un po' vanesio e superficiale, la sua reputazione di libertino senz'altro più che meritata e inizia a corteggiare la povera Celestine per il motivo più futile e sbagliato: fare un dispetto alla cognata.
Celestine è invece un personaggio meraviglioso, dolce, semplice e ingenua, ma orgogliosa, tanto da preferire di lavorare come tutrice in una famiglia dell'alta società, piuttosto che farsi mantenere da una cara parente.
Non è bella, ma intelligente, generosa e affezionata e tutte le sue qualità piano piano riescono a far cambiare l'atteggmento di Lord St. Claire, senza che neanche lui se ne renda subito conto, mettendo,o in difficoltà di fronte alla forza dei sentimenti e delle risposte che provoca in lui.
St. Claire mostra una dolcezza verso Celestine e delle attenzioni sorprendenti, che fanno superare i pregiudizi che inizialmente ho provato nei suoi confronti.
Veramente una bellissima storia che consiglio a chi ama letture piene di romanticismo.

Beautiful and original the idea of turning what could be an anthology of five regency short stories, in a story that is written by five different authors, but is connected by one common thread: a magical jewel, heart shaped, that according to a gypsy's prophecy  will bring the love of a Duke and his heart to the woman who wears it.

The authors told the stories of five childhood friends who have made together a vow and that over time they will pass the magical object, one another, when they'll find the true love.

Very nice, romantic and well written. The stories might almost seem written by the same person for the style used and continuity in the story.

Bella e originale l'idea di trasformare quella che poteva essere un'antologia di cinque racconti regency, in una storia che è scritta da cinque autrici diverse, ma è collegata da un unico filo conduttore: un gioiello magico a forma di cuore che secondo una profezia gitana porterà l'amore di un Duca e il suo cuore a la donna che lo indosserà.

Da qui vengono raccontate le storie di cinque amiche d'infanzia che hanno fatto un patto e che nel tempo si passeranno l'oggetto magico, nel momento in cui chi lo avrà in suo possesso troverà il vero amore.

Molto carino, romantico e ben scritto. I racconti potrebbero quasi sembrare scritti dalla stessa persona per lo stile usato e la continuità nella storia.

Pianifica un piano perfetto di seduzione per metterlo in ginocchio a implorare per la sua mano. Ma quando per errore finisce nel letto con un altro uomo, e divampa la passione, tutti i suoi piani sembrano essere a rischio di andare in fumo.

Ashton Fiztgerald, Duca di Claymore, è sorpreso dal potente desiderio che sembra assalirlo la prima volta che vede Daphne. Così quando scopre che lei è la misteriosa donna che gli ha fatto visita durante la notte, è determinato a farla sua... Per sempre.

Mi è piaciuto molto questo primo libro della serie By Invitation Only.

Per essere la protagonista di un regency, la giovane Miss Daphne non si può dire che manchi di coraggio e spirito risoluto nel voler creare i presupposti per favorire il matrimonio con il gentiluomo che sembra essere l'uomo dei suoi sogni, che però non riscuote le simpatia del cognato, che deve dare il suo consenso.

La cara ragazza decide di intrufolarsi di nascosto durante le ore notturne nella camera designata all'uomo e perdere la sua verginità, forzando la mano al cognato.

Peccato che al buio non si accorga che la persona nel letto è tutt'altra persona, che a sua volta crede che la donna arrivata nel suo letto sia una sua intima conoscenza.

Il giorno dopo si scopre l'errore d'identità ed entrambi i protagonisti desiderano scoprire chi è la persona con la quale hanno condiviso una notte di passione, anche se lo vogliono scoprire per diversi motivi.

Daphne per quando intraprendente in questa occasione, in realtà si dimostra abbastanza ingenua e un po' con le fette di salame sugli occhi nei confronti dell'uomo del quale crede di essersi innamorata, lo ha idealizzato e ben presto dovrà fare i conti con la realtà.

Lord Ashton dal canto suo, nonostante la sua reputazione di libertino, in realtà capisce subito che per lui non è stata la solita avventura di una notte. Quella donna misteriosa ha fatto nascere in lui sentimenti ed emozioni che non aveva mai provato e ha intenzione di fare di tutto per scoprire la sua identità e riparare, molto volentieri, al "danno" fatto.

Troverà filo da torcere in Daphne a causa della sua reputazione, la ragazza infatti vuole trovare un buon partito, un uomo tranquillo, calmo e pacifico, che non la tradisca alla prima occasione, tutte cose per le quali Lord Ashton non sembra il candidato migliore.

Molto carina e piacevole da leggere questa storia, ben scritta, con dialoghi frizzanti e divertenti tra i due protagonisti.

I really liked this first book in the series By Invitation Only.

Being the protagonist in a regency, the young Miss Daphne I can't say she lacks of courage and spirit determined to create the conditions to facilitate the marriage with the gentleman who seems to be the man of her dreams, but her brother-in-law, who must give his consent, doesn't like him.

The dear girl decides to sneak in secret during the night in the room designated for this man and lose her virginity, forcing the hand to his brother-in-law.

Pity that in the dark she does not know that the person in the bed is a completely different person, who in turn believes that the woman came to his bed is a previous intimate knowledge.

The next day they discover the identity error and bWanted them want to find out who is the person with whom they shared a night of passion, even if they want to find out for different reasons.

Daphne despite in  this occasion was books enough, actually she proves quite naive toward the man she thougth in love with and she has idealized him and soon she will learn the reality.

Lord Ashton for his part, despite his reputation as a libertine, actually understands immediately that for him was not the usual one-night adventure. The mysterious woman made him feel emotions who had never felt before and he's going to do everything possible to find out her identity and repair, gladly, to "damage" done.

He'll find a lot of barricades from Daphne because of his reputation, she indeed wants to find a good man, a quiet one, calm and peaceful, who is not going to betray her at the first opportunity, all things for which Lord Ashton does not seem to be the best candidate.

Very pretty and nice to read this story, well written, with sparkling and funny dialogues between the two protagonists.

Abbastanza carino questo libro regency, con due protagonisti che amano vivere al di fuori degli schemi. Diciamo che apprezzo molto l'idea, ma credo che non sia stata sviluppata al meglio sue potenzialità.

Scottata in precedenza dall'amore e preoccupata di rimanere intrappolata dal matrimonio, la testarda Lady Cordelia Armstrong è furiosa con il padre che vuole manipolarla e costringerla a sposarsi insieme a un socio d'affari, lo stesso uomo, Ian Hunter, che in passato è stato un suo amante.

Comprendendo la riluttanza di Cordelia, Ian le propone un falso fidanzamento. Per il momento faranno credere a tutti di essere fidanzati, anche se non hanno bisogno di fingere l'attrazione che ancora provano uno per l'altra. Mentre sono in viaggio verso la magica Arabia, le linee tra fantasia e realtà si confondono. Saranno entrambi capaci di allontanarsi l'uno dall'altra una volta che l'accordo pattuito arriverà al termine?

Lady Cordelia vive in un mondo a misura d'uomo e questa cosa le sta stretta. Non accetta che altri possano decidere per lei cosa fare, chi sposare, soprattutto se l'unico fine perseguito sono gli interessi del padre a discapito della sua felicità. Ha già visto lo stesso schema ripetersi nella vita delle sorelle e non vuole cedere.

Rivendica il suo diritto di vivere la vita che desidera, con la persona che ama ed è disposta anche a causare uno scandalo per ottenere quello che vuole.

Non ha pensato che questa cosa porterà con sé un prezzo alto da pagare, ha sottovalutato le reazioni del padre, che praticamente la esclude dalla famiglia, come se fosse morta.

Mi è piaciuto lo spirito che ha è stato alla base delle scelte di Cordelia, coraggiose e scandalose per l'epoca, anche se non l'ho trovata così coerente poi nell'accettare le conseguenze delle sue azioni.

Nei rapporti con Ian comunque tende a nascondere tutte le cose del suo passato, più che altro per omissione e questo fa capire che non è così immune dal giudizio degli altri.

Teme il giudizio delle sorelle e della zia, insomma non è così di ghiaccio come pensava di essere.

Anche Ian che tanto la ammira per questo suo lato indipendente e fiero, ogni tanto cade nei soliti pregiudizi e nelle solite reazioni che hanno gli uomini quando scoprono che la donna da loro amata non è proprio una santa.

Segreti di Cordelia e segreti di Ian che appesantiscono la loro storia e li dividono sempre e costantemente, nonostante la forte attrazione che provano.

Due persone abituate a vivere da sole, senza rendere conto a nessuno, che per questo non riescono ad accettare completamente il fatto che forse stare insieme a qualcuno può dare qualcosa in più, e non è solo una fonte di privazione e rinunce.

Percepiscono una forte connessione tra di loro, ma sentono che è troppo; ogni volta che stanno insieme fanno un passo avanti e tre indietro, un po' frustrante.

Mi ha divertito il fatto che il padre così insopportabile e despota di Cordelia, in realtà sia stato già abbondantemente ripagato per tutte le sue cattiverie, dalla stessa moglie, che gli ha fatto ingoiare dei bocconi amari. Gli Armstrong sono una famiglia con un sacco di scheletri nell'armadio, come si scoprirà leggendo questo libro.

Lady Cordelia invece ha voluto fare tutto alla luce del sole e ha pagato per questo.

Una storia un po' dolce- amara, ma per fortuna con un buon lieto fine.

Quite nice this regency, with two players who like to live on their own terms. Let's just say that I really appreciate the idea, but I think that has not been developed to its fullest potential.

Burned by love and fearful of being trapped by marriage, headstrong Lady Cordelia Armstrong is furious when her father manipulates her into a betrothal with his business partner, and her one-time lover, Iain Hunter.

Understanding Cordelia's reluctance, Iain proposes a pretend engagement. For now they will make believe, but there is no need to fake the attraction that still burns hotly between them. As they travel to magical Arabia, the lines between fantasy and reality blur. Will either of them really be able to walk away once their deal is done?

Lady Cordelia lives in a world made for men and she doesn't like it. She doesn't accept that others can decide for her what to do, who to marry, especially if the only purpose pursued are her father's interests at the expense of her happiness. She has already seen the same pattern repeated in the life of the sisters and she doesn't want to give in.

Claiming her right to live the life she wants, with the person she loves and she is prepared even to cause a scandal to get what she wants.

She didn't think that this choice brought with it a high price to pay, she underestimated the reaction of the father, which almost excludes her from the family as if she were dead.

I liked the spirit which was the basis of her brave  and scandalous choices for the time, although I have not found Cordelia so tough in accepting the consequences of her actions.

In dealing with Ian she still tends to hide all things of her past, mostly for omission because she is not so immune from judgment of others.

She fears the judgment of sisters and aunt, in short, she is not so made of ice as she previously thought to be.

Even Ian that admires Cordelia for her independent side and her pride, occasionally falls into the usual prejudices and usual reactions that men have when they discover that the woman they love isn't exactly a saint.

Cordelia's secrets and Ian's secret too are a pain in the neck for them and divide them always and constantly, despite the strong attraction they feel.

Two people accustomed to living alone, without counting on nobody, they cannot fully accept the fact that maybe getting together can give someone something more, and it's not just a source of deprivation and renunciation.

They feel a strong connection between them, but they feel it's too much; whenever they're together they make one step forward and three back, a bit frustrating.

I was amused by the fact that Cordelia's father so unbearable, in fact has already been amply rewarded for all his malice, by his same wife and he had to swallow the bitter morsels. The Armstrong are a family with a lot of skeletons in the closet, as you'll discover by reading this book.

Lady Cordelia instead wanted to do everything in the sunlight and she has paid for it.

A story a little bittersweet, but fortunately with a happy ending.

Ho scoperto un'altra serie regency veramente intrigante! Si chiama The Disgraced Lords scritta da Bronwen Evans.

Ho letto il secondo libro di questa serie A Promise of More e mi è piaciuto veramente molto; anche se in alcuni momenti sentivo l'impulso di voler strangolare il protagonista maschile, l'irresistibile Lord Coldhurst.

Quando Beatrice Hennessey decide di affrontare Lord Coldhurst, il rinomato libertino che ha ucciso il fratello in un duello, il suo intento è quello di salvare la sua famiglia dalla rovina. È determinata persino a ricattarlo per obbligarlo a un matrimonio senza amore. Ha intenzione di fargliela pagare per tutta la vita, al benestante Lord Coldhurst. Ma mentre sta aspettando l'attracco dell'imbarcazione, Beatrice finisce nelle acque del Tamigi e riesce a uscirne solo grazie all'intervento di due forti braccia mascoline, tra le quali la donna vorrebbe rimanere prigioniera per sempre in  abbraccio.

Questo fino a quando non scopre che queste braccia appartengono a Sebastian Hawkestone, lo stesso Lord Coldhurst.

La piccola sirena che ha rischiato di affogare ha una proposta decisamente interessante da fare, una alla quale Sebastian si sorprende di scoprire di essere abbastanza incline ad accettare. Anche se è stato con donne molto più belle, la ragazza ha un aspetto piacevole e, d'altra parte, è arrivato per lui il momento di mettere al mondo un erede. Beatrice ha tutte le premesse per essere una moglie ideale: una donna che prova dell'odio per lui con ogni fibra del suo essere è ben lontana dalla possibilità di innamorarsi di lui. Nonostante ciò, non passa molto tempo che il piano di Sebastian, per un matrimonio di convenienza, cominci ad andare a rotoli e si ritrovi coinvolto in un eccitante gioco di seduzione.

Beatrice e Sebastian insieme fanno decisamente scintille. Lui è un uomo abituato alla ricerca del piacere fisico assoluto con le sue compagnie femminili, e non ha mai voluto avere anche solo avere una amante "ufficiale". È tormentato dai ricordi della sua infanzia, durante la quale i genitori, per spirito di vendetta reciproco e gelosia,  si erano fatti una vera e propria guerra a colpi di scandali e amanti.

Questo lo ha spinto a non ricercare mai coinvolgimenti personali con l'altro sesso, a parte l'affetto e l'amore infinito che nutre per le sorelle; ma nella sua visione della vita nulla può essere più pericoloso di un matrimonio e una moglie per la quale si provi affetto. La sua ricetta per il matrimonio perfetto è: fiducia, amicizia e rispetto.

Beatrice all'inizio è d'accordo con lui, ma ben presto scopre di non saper resistere a quest'uomo e si rende conto che non può fare a meno di provare dei sentimenti per lui.

La  passione che nasce tra di loro è profonda e intensa  e Sebastian è l'uomo giusto per risvegliare Beatrice e la sua femminilità.

Ma paura, incomprensioni, errori di entrambi rendono il rapporto di questi due movimentato, a dir poco.

Sebastian fa tanti errori, quando è spaventato dai suoi sentimenti per Beatrice tende a essere quasi crudele e cerca di allontanarla, rifugiandosi nelle "vecchie" abitudini e consolazioni, ma lei è abbastanza forte e testarda da tenergli testa e affrontarlo e soprattutto combattere per tentare di cambiarlo.

Oltre alla parte romance che è veramente ben scritta, così come le scene di sesso e seduzione tra i due, la trama del libro evolve in modo inaspettato, diventando un po' un giallo.

La morte del fratello di Beatrice non è stato un incidente in un duello, ma un piano orchestrato per colpire e distruggere Sebastian. Così come da tempo stanno succedendo strani incidenti anche ai suoi amici di gioventù, un gruppo di nobiluomini che si fa chiamare  Libertine Scholars.

Oltre a Sebastian e Beatrice, la presenza di altri personaggi che contribuiscono a dare un quadro d'insieme al racconto molto interessante.

Una delle coppie presenti, Serena e Christian, sono i protagonisti del primo libro della serie e gli accenni alla loro storia mi ha già fatto capire che devo assolutamente leggerlo, credo proprio che mi possa piacere ancora più di questo.

Così come il finale lascia capire che il terzo libro della serie sarà anche quello molto interessante, per vedere fino a dove può arrivare il nemico di questi Libertine Scholars con la sua vendetta.

I discovered another regency series truly intriguing! It's called The Disgraced Lords written by Bronwen Evans.

I read the second book in this series APromise of More and I really liked a lot, although  sometimes I felt the impulse to want to strangle the male protagonist, the irresistible Lord Coldhurst.

When Beatrice Hennessey sets out to confront Lord Coldhurst, the notorious rogue who killed her brother in a duel, her intent is to save her family from destitution. She’s determined to blackmail the man into a loveless marriage. She’ll make the wealthy Lord Coldhurst pay for the rest of his life. But while greeting his ship, Beatrice takes a tumble into the Thames—only to be fished out by a pair of strong masculine arms that tempt her to stay locked in their heated embrace forever. That is, until she realizes those arms belong to Sebastian Hawkestone, Lord Coldhurst himself.

The little drowned mermaid has an interesting proposition indeed; one that Sebastian is surprised to find quite agreeable. Although he’s had women more beautiful, she is pleasing to the eye, and besides, it’s time he fathered an heir. Beatrice promises to be the ideal wife; a woman who hates him with an all-consuming passion is far too sensible to expect romance. However, it isn’t long before Sebastian’s plan for a marriage of convenience unravels, and he’s caught up in the exhilarating undertow of seduction.

Beatrice and Sebastian together are definitely fireworks. He is a man accustomed to finding the absolute physical pleasure with his female companies, and he has never wanted to have even an "official" mistress. He Is tormented by memories of his childhood, during which both of his parents made a real war with scandals and a lot of lovers for jealousy and vindictiveness.

This prompted him to not seek personal involvement ever with the opposite sex, apart from the affection and the infinite love that nourishes for his sisters; but in his vision of life nothing can be more dangerous than a wedding and a wife with feelings for him. His recipe for the perfect wedding is: trust, friendship and respect.

Beatrice from the start agrees with him, but soon turns out she's falling in love with him, very hard.

The passion they feel between them is deep and intense and Sebastian is the right man to awaken Beatrice and her femininity.

But fear, misunderstandings, errors of both make their story a real rollercoaster.

Sebastian makes many mistakes, when he is frightened by his feelings for Beatrice tends to be almost cruel and he tries to get her away, taking refuge in the "old" habits and consolations, but she is strong enough and stubborn to deal with him him and fight to attempt to change his ideas.

The romance is really well written, so the sex scenes, very hot, and the plot of the book evolves into an unexpected, mistery

The death of Beatrice's brother was not an accident in a duel, but a plan orchestrated to target and destroy Sebastian. As well as long strange accidents are happening even to his friends of youth, a group of noblemen who calls themselves Libertine Scholars.

In addition to Sebastian and Beatrice, the presence of other characters help to create a solid, and beautiful story.

One of these pairs, Serena and Christian, are the protagonists of the first book of the series and the hints at their history has already made me realize that I must read it, I think that I am going to love the first one even more than this.

The third book in the series will be also very interesting to see how far the enemy  of these Libertine Scholars can go with her revenge and her reasons.

Anteprima: The Trouble With Honor by Julia London

Carino e divertente questo primo libro della serie delle Cabot Sisters di Julia London, un regency dove la protagonista è una vera e propria combina guai, testarda e con una certa dose di convinzione quando si tratta di portare a termine i piani che si è messa in testa, il fine giustifica i mezzi per Honor Cabot, soprattutto quando è in gioco il suo futuro e quello della sua famiglia.

Tempi disperati necessitano di misure estreme per Honor Cabot, figlia adottiva del benestante Conte di Beckington, mentre si avvicina il momento che causerà la rovina della sua famiglia. Dopo la morte del Conte lei e le sue sorelle perderanno il lusso di abitare in un'enorme casa, il loro posto in vista nell'Alta Società causa del fratellastro e della sua fidanzata che è un'arrampicatrice sociale. È costretta ad agire in fretta e Honor fa un patto col diavolo, l'unico donnaiolo in tutta Londra che può riuscire a sedurre la fidanzata del fratello e farla uscire dalla vita delle sorelle Cabot.

Figlio illegittimo di un duca, George Easton è nato creando uno scandalo e vive creando la sua fortuna correndo incredibili rischi. Ma adesso si ritrova invischiato in una pericolosa danza di seduzione che mette in gioco il suo cuore e a rischio la reputazione di Honor. E mentre cambiano i ruoli in questo loro gioco segreto,  la scommessa in palio può essere troppo rischiosa anche per un noto giocatore d'azzardo e una determinata debuttante dallo spirito indomito.

Il personaggio di Honor, così fuori dagli schemi, a causa dei suoi comportamenti e delle sue idee poco convenzionali mi è piaciuto molto, anche se non mi sarebbe mai piaciuto essere la vittima di una delle sue macchinazioni. Una mente molto ingegnosa e pericolosa la sua. In un primo momento le sue motivazioni potevano sembrare molto superficiali, ma in realtà è spinta da ben altri problemi per arrivare a ideare il suo piano.

George Easton è il donnaiolo che incarna tutto quello poteva intrigare le donne dell'Alta Società dell'epoca, bellissimo, sicuro di se stesso, sexy, con una storia personale che lo fa apparire ai loro occhi come un frutto proibito. E a lui in parte questo ruolo è comodo e in parte pesa un po', rendendolo sempre un outsider, l'uomo più desiderato, che però si preferisce tener ben nascosto nell'armadio per salvare le apparenze e la propria reputazione.

In tutto questo complotto e nella storia mi è piaciuto il fatto che la vittima del piano di Honor, per quanto detestabile, non sia caduta nell'inganno, ma abbia restituito il "favore" alla futura cognata.

In questo libro si possono trovare intrighi, amore, passione e una sana dose di ironia, che lo rendono una lettura molto piacevole.

Il finale mi ha incuriosito parecchio nei confronti del prossimo libro della serie, su Grace, la secondogenita delle sorelle Cabot. Rimane un bel punto di domanda in sospeso: cosa è successo a Grace, che si era allontanata da casa a sua volta, per tentare di trovare marito e risolvere la situazione delicata della sua famiglia? Purtroppo bisognerà aspettare, speriamo non troppo.

   Nice and funny, this first book in the series of Cabot Sisters by Julia London, a regency where the female protagonist is a real troublemaker, strong-willed with a certain amount of stubborness when it comes to carry out the plans with her mind is filled, the end justifies the means to Honor Cabot, especially when it's involved her future and that of her family.

Desperate times call for daring measures as Honor Cabot, the eldest stepdaughter of the wealthy Earl of Beckington, awaits her family's ruin. I liked a lot the character of Honor, so different from the usual picture of the lady of the Ton, because of her behaviors and her unconventional ideas, although I would never like to be the victim of one of her machinations. She's got a very ingenious and dangerous mind her. At first her motives could look very superficial, but she is actually driven by other issues, and she needs to find out a way to solve everything.

George Easton is the rake who embodies everything that could intrigue women of Ton at the time, beautiful, confident, hot, with a personal story that makes him look in their eyes as a forbidden fruit. And in part this role is comfortable with him, but sometimes it's to heavy, making him always an outsider, the most wanted man, who the women prefer to keep well hidden in the closet to save the appearances and their reputations.

In all this plot and story I liked the fact that the Honor's victim, as detestable as she may be, doesn't fall into deception, but she also returnes the "favor" to the future sister-in-law.

In this book I found intrigues, love, passion and a perfect dose of irony, that make it a very enjoyable read.

The final intrigued me a lot for the next book in the series, about Grace, Honor's younger sister. There is a cliffhanger, with a pending question: what happened to Grace, who had moved away from home, while she attempts to find and solve the delicate situation of her family? Unfortunately we must expect, hopefully not too much.

Ten Reasons to Stay by Sabrina Jeffries

Molto, molto carino questo breve racconto regency. Ha tutte le cosine messe al posto giusto, o per meglio dire scritte... Due bei protagonisti, una storia carina, divertente e pieno di passione e poi si legge in un battito di ciglia.

A Eliza Creenshaw è stato insegnato a riflettere prima di prendere decisioni impulsive. Ma quando scopre che il suo tutore ha intenzione di farla sposare, senza neanche farle vivere una stagione nei circoli dell'alta società londinese, dimentica tutti gli insegnamenti ricevuti. Tenta di scappare rubando inconsapevolmente un cavallo a Colin Hunt, il nuovo Duca che ha ereditato da poco tempo il titolo, il quale non desidera nient'altro che lei faccia il suo ritorno a casa... o rimanga per sempre.

La trama non è certo originale, ma la scintilla che scocca al primo incontro Colin ed Eliza è

intrigante.

A Colin bisognerebbe ricordare il detto "mai dire mai", da una parte vuole che la ragazza stia al sicuro, dall'altra non vede l'ora di liberarsi di lei, nonostante l'attrazione che prova.

Eliza è troppo piena di vita, sveglia e ha la capacità stupirlo, lasciandolo senza parole con le sue risposte sagaci e decisioni inaspettate. Il suo modo di fare ricorda a Colin la moglie che ha perso in India, in un attacco che in realtà voleva andare a colpire lui, l'uomo mezzo indiano e mezzo inglese, che ha sempre mostrato la sua lealtà nei confronti della Corona Inglese.

In realtà arrivato in Inghilterra il nuovo duca non trova certo un'accoglienza migliore visto le sue origini, ma il titolo e il denaro lo aiutano a farsi accettare.

Bella storia, ben scritta e le "dieci ragioni per rimanere" con Colin per Eliza sono tutte da scoprire.

Il racconto in precedenza era stato incluso in un'antologia intitolata School for Heiresses

Very, very nice this regency short story. It has all the stuff put at the right place, or better to say written At the right place... Two amazing characters, a nice story, funny and full of passion and then it can be read in the blink of an eye.

 Eliza Crenshawe’s lesson is to look before she leaps. But when she discovers that her new guardian plans to marry her off without so much as a Season, she forgets all that. She flees—on a horse she unwittingly steals (oops!)—from Colin Hunt, a newly minted earl who wants nothing more than for her to go home…or stay forever.

The storyline is hardly original, but the fireworks between Colin and Eliza at their first meeting are intriguing.

We should remember to Colin "never say never", on the one hand he wants the girl safe, the other can't wait to get rid of her, despite the attraction he feels.

Eliza is too full of life, and has the ability to amaze him, leaving him speechless with her shrewd answers and unexpected decisions. Her ways remind Colin the wife who lost in India, in an attack with the purpose to hit him, the man halfbreed between Indian and English, which has always shown his loyalty to the English Crown.

Actually  when he arrived in England people didn't like the new Duke's origins, but the title and money help him gain acceptance.

Great story, well written and the "ten reasons to stay" with Colin for Eliza must be discovered reading the book, they're worth it.

The story had previously been included in an anthology entitled School for Heiresses.

A Scandalous Plan by Donna Lea Simpson

Breve racconto regency carino e romantico e dolce, è stata una lettura molto veloce e piacevole, grazie ai personaggi presenti nel libro, anche se credo che il primo titolo con il quale era uscita, A Father's Love, fosse più azzeccato per la storia narrata, rispetto a quello che è stato scelto attualmente.

Lady Theresa è una donna determinata e intelligente, stanca di trascorrere le sue giornate ascoltando i pettegolezzi che le zitelle del villaggio diffondono su un misterioso gentiluomo che si è da poco trasferito lì. Conosciuta per essere testarda e felicemente nubile, decide di presentarsi dal nuovo arrivato per scoprire se quello che si dice sulla sua famiglia è la verità.

Il rispettabile Mr. Martindale preferisce condurre una vita isolata. Vedovo, ha creato da solo la sua fortuna e adesso spera di poter trascorrere il suo tempo a coltivare la terra e allevare i suoi due figli piccoli, libero dalle interferenze della gente del posto. Quando Lady Theresa fa la sua comparsa a casa sua, è l'ultima cosa che desidera, una donna a caccia di un marito, con l'intenzione di dirgli come allevare i suoi figli e peggio ancora come dovrebbe comportarsi lui stesso.

Ma ancora prima di riuscire a farsi accettare con discrezione nella vita dei Martindale, Lady Theresa ha messo a punto un piano scandaloso per far conquistare il benevolere della gente del villaggio all'uomo e ai suoi figli inusuali. Ma quello che non sembra capire la donna è che questo tipo di piano potrebbe rivelarsi una lama a doppio taglio, o come potrebbe mettere a rischio la sua presenza all'interno di questa famiglia alla quale si è affezionata e nel cuore dell'uomo che si è resa conto di amare.

La storia è molto carina e ben scritta e ho adorato i suoi personaggi al completo.

Lady Theresa è inarrestabile quando si mette in testa qualcosa, ma anche molto sensibile e ricca di ironia.

Mr. Martindale non si può che amare nel leggere l'amore profondo che nutre per i suoi figli e le cattiverie che deve subire a causa dell'ignoranza delle persone.

Angelica e Jacob, i figli di Martindale, sono rappresentati in modo molto realistico nelle loro caratteristiche e nei sentimenti. la gelosia e il risentimento che nutre Angelica verso Jacob, perchè in qualche modo si sente trascurata a causa del problema del fratello minore, ma anche la sua intelligenza e sfrontatezza.

È impossibile poi non provare tenerezza per Jacob.

Avrei preferito leggere questo storia in un libro un po' più lungo, sarebbe stato veramente un bel racconto.

A very nice regency short novel, romantic and sweet, it was a very quick and nice reading, thanks to the characters featured in the book, although I think the first title which was publicated the first time, A Father's Love, was better with the story than what was chosen at this time.

Strong-willed and intelligent, Lady Theresa is tired of spending her days listening to the gossipy village spinsters talk about the mysterious gentleman who just moved into the village. Known to be headstrong, and happily unattached, she takes it upon herself to call on the new resident and find out if the awful rumors about his family are true.

The Honourable Mr. Martindale welcomes life as a recluse. A widower, he’s made his fortune and now hopes to dedicate his time to working the land and raising his two young children—free of interference from the locals. When Lady Theresa comes marching up to his door, it’s the last thing Martindale wants, a husband hunter who thinks she can tell him how to raise his children and, worse, how he should comport himself.

Yet before long Lady Theresa has worked her way into Martindale’s quiet life and hatched an outrageous plan to win the village’s approval for both the man and his unusual children. But what she fails to see is how badly the plan could backfire, or how it could jeopardize her own place in a family she has come to cherish—and in the heart of the man she has come to love.

The story is very pretty and well written and I adored all the characters.

Lady Theresa is unstoppable when she puts something in the head, but also very sensitive and rich in irony.

Mr. Martindale one cannot but love him, reading the deep love that nourishes for his children and the evil that he must suffer because of the ignorance of the people.

Angelica and Jacob,  Martindale 's children, are represented in a very realistic way in their characteristics and feelings. The jealousy and the resentment that Angelica feels towards Jacob, because somehow she feels neglected because of the problem of the younger brother, but also her intelligence and cockiness.

It is impossible then not feeling tenderness for Jacob.

I would much rather read this story in a book a little longer, it would have been a beautiful story.

Loving the Marquess by Suzanna Medeiros

Ultimo libro letto da me in questo 2013 e posso dire di essere stata molto fortunata nella scelta. Loving the Marquess è un bel libro regency, con tutti gli ingredienti giusti per dare vita a una lettura che mi ha intrigato molto.

Due bei protagonisti, un'ottima trama alle spalle, ben scritta, con tanto di proposta indecente e colpo di scena inaspettato e dei personaggi in secondo piano che aiutano ad arricchire il contesto nel quale si sviluppa la storia. Romanticismo, passione e un po' di intrighi.

Lei è a un passo dal perdere ogni cosa...

Per salvare la sua casa e tenere al sicuro la sorella e il fratello più piccoli di lei, Louisa Evans è costretta a chiedere aiuto alla stessa famiglia che un tempo li ha mandati in rovina.

Lui ha bisogno di un erede...

Il Marchese di Overlea comincia a mostrare i segni di aver ereditato la stessa malattia che ha ucciso il padre e il fratello. Per evitare che il marchesato possa cadere nelle mani di un suo cugino senza scrupoli, Overlea è costretto a garantire la nascita di un erede, prima che la malattia glielo impedisca.

Ma è determinato a non essere il padre naturale dell'erede.

Il piano di Overlea è semplice... sposare la pratica, ma disperata, Miss Evans e costringerla a tenere fede alla sua promessa di garantirgli un erede. Ma attende che siano avvenute le nozze per spiegare alla moglie che dovrà essere un altro uomo ad aiutarla a concepire l'erede. Il delicato piano si complica quando il marchese si rende conto di desiderare ardentemente la moglie per sé, e una minaccia esterna si rivela ancora più pericolosa della stessa malattia dell'uomo.

Nicholas e Louise sono una splendida coppia, sfacciatamente bello lui, impulsivo, appassionato, ma fedele ai suoi principi, anche se per garantire un erede sano per il titolo nobiliare, escogita un piano molto azzardato. Louise è tenace, intelligente, bellissima e senza un briciolo di egoismo. Accetta la proposta di matrimonio di un uomo che conosce appena, per permettere ai suoi cari una vita sicura e lontano dalle insidie escogitate dal cugino di Nicholas,approfittandosi delle grosse difficoltà economiche degli Evans.

Un matrimonio di mutuo interesse che si rivela qualcosa di più e per fortuna grazie alla vera amicizia che Lord Kerrick, candidato prescelto da Nicholas come probabile padre dell'erede, Louisa riesce a punzecchiare il marito e far crollare la sua presunta indifferenza.

Mi ha divertito e ho adorato Lord Kerrick e spero che il prossimo libro, secondo di questa serie Landing a Lord, sia sul suo personaggio e Catherine, la sorella minore di Louisa.

E con questo si capisce che mi è piaciuto tanto il libro da aggiungere questa serie alle altre che già seguo.

Last book read by me in this 2013 and I can say it has been a very fortunate choice in my reading list. Loving the Marquess is a beautiful regency book, with all the right things to create a reading that intrigued me a lot.

Two amazing protagonists, an excellent plot behind them, well written, with a "indecent proposal" and unexpected twist and characters into the background that helps to enrich the context in which the story unfolds. Romance, passion and intrigue.

She is on the verge of losing everything…

To save her home and keep her two younger siblings safe, Louisa Evans must turn to the head of the family that ruined hers.

He needs an heir…

The Marquess of Overlea is starting to show signs of having inherited the same illness that killed his father and older brother. To prevent the marquisate from falling into the hands of an unscrupulous cousin, Overlea must secure an heir before that illness also claims him.

But he is determined not to be the father of that heir…

Overlea’s plan is simple—marry the practical, yet desperate, Miss Evans and hold Louisa to her promise to provide him with an heir. But he waits until after they are married to tell his wife that he intends to have another man father that heir. His careful plan becomes complicated by an almost desperate need to claim Louisa for himself and an outside threat that proves even more dangerous than his illness.

Nicholas and Louise are a wonderful couple; the Marquess of Overlea is brazenly beautiful, impulsive, passionate, but faithful to his principles, even if to ensure a healthy heir to the title he thought a crazy plan, very risky. Louise is tenacious, smart, beautiful and without an ounce of selfishness. She agrees the marriage proposal of a man who knows a little, so her loved ones could have a safe life, away from pitfalls devised by Nicholas' cousin, taking advantage of great economic difficulties of the Evans.

A marriage of mutual interest that turns out to be something more and luckily, thanks to real friendship that Lord Kerrick, the candidate selected by Nicholas as father of his heir, feels for Nicholas, Louisa manages to poke the husband and bring down the indifference he's faking.

I was amused and I liked a lot Lord Kerrick and I hope that the next book in this series, Landing at Lord, it will be on his character and Catherine, the younger sister of Louisa.

And with this you understand that I liked so much the book to add this series to the other that I already follow.
